Yeah he was from Provo. He either just didn't like public funds for sports, didn't like that it was happening in SL County (as opposed to Utah County) or was afraid that Provo might do something similair down the road.

I already suggested RSL license plates to help raise money but if my ten bucks will help... then add it to the 2 Season Tickets and numerous RSL gear purchases I have already made!

Someone over on BS posted Curt Bramble's home address and phone number... I sincerely hope nothing gets blown out of proportion and a lot of negative media attention is focused on soccer fans...

Regardless of my post on that BS thread I think soccer fans will not be looked on favorably if people do stupid things.

Just my thinking out loud!

Would the FO look kindly upon us doing some fund-raising of our own?

We could make really cute T-shirts with a pro-stadium slogan and sell them on Cafepress or something... I could knit some Beanies For Stadia or something... I don't know.

Yeah, the minor league Provo Angels were trying to Blackmail Provo/Utah County into building a stadium for them.

It's kind of like the way an Identity Thief or Scam Artist will take $20 or something like that out of your bank account; to see if you notice. If you don't, then he'll drain your account.

If we pay for a stadium for the Provo Angels & RSL, then we are on record as not caring if some schools, police stations & fire stations are closed to build a stadium for the Salt Lake Twins. Salt Lake Marlins?

Well, we don't care anyway. All we care about are roads, apparently... :p

I totally agree. This is a setback, but let's not make it worse by doing something stupid and making him and others hate soccer even more. We need to show them all that we are classy and will work within the system to get what we want. And we will get what we want, it just might take a little longer.

Concur. Keep it positive--at least in public!

RDA for Sports Facilities

I am hesitant to weigh in on this one, but there are a few points that need to be made.

1) I am a huge soccer fan and have front row seasons tickets for RSL and will have them again at the new stadium (whenever and wherever it gets built).

2) I am very disappointed that the RDA ban on sports facility passed. I am involved in politics and had been tracking the bills at the state Legislature and was not even aware of this bill until after the session was over. I wish that I had known about it as I would have made an effort to contact some of the key players.

3) There have been egregious abuses of RDA moneys in the past and this takes money away from and REALLY hurts education. If you have seen these abuses of our tax dollars, you would recognize that there needs to be better controls over how they are spent. I disagree with the RDA ban on sports facilities, but the other uses and abuses need to be reigned in. Try to understand the big picture of how RDAs work--there is no way that it can be treated with sufficient detail in this forum.

4) Senator Bramble has been an excellent senator and representative of his constituents of Utah County. He is not my senator, but I know him and respect him. He is very pro business and I would expect him to typically support RSL and sports venues because of the revenue and secondary business that would generated.

5) I believe this came down to a battle with SL Mayor Rocky Anderson. The last thing that we (RSL fans and soccer supporters) needed was to have Rocky carrying our banner at the state legislature. Rocky (the biggest liberal in the state) has burned every bridge possible with the Utah Legislature (the most conservative in the country) and it appears that this was pay back time for Rocky. I can't think of anything that he supported that was passed by the legislature.

6) It is too late this year, but this will undoubtedly be revisted in future years. Hopefully, it won't be too late. :o

And if we REFUSE to help pay for those stadiums, then we are on record as not caring about economic development via sports, etc.

I realize that money for schools is important (although throwing $$ at our education isn't going to fix most of the problems, IMO -- but that's a different topic, isn't it:)), but I think the legislation was a little extreme. There has to be some happy point of balance somewhere, wouldn't you say?
