It was draft day. They were getting something for nothing all day long. That they got money or a player is irrelevant. Now, they gotta find a player. Let's keep an eye on who they sign that looks like the Kreis-replacement and then we can talk about if RSL could have grabbed that player for the cost of the allocation.

You know, I think there was only one mistake, and that was leaving him unprotected in the first place. Teams need glue to hold them together, Jason is WONDERFUL in that role, and IMO irreplacable. Could we find someone that could do it? Yes. BUT, I think that it wouldn't be the same. Teams need chemistry, if you lose Jason you lose the chemistry and have to start over. PLUS, captains that have coach-like tendencies are nice to have on a team, the coach isn't on the field, the captain is, they can sometimes help more than the coach can.

Who on RSL's protected list would you have preferred to see unprotected?

Carry Tally is the glue. He was the leader of the team last year, not Kreis.

Harris...that way RSL would have protected Kreiss and not ending up costing the team to get him back. Who makes such "wrong" decisions?

I actually agree with what you're saying. Once TFC drafted him I thought RSL should have let him go, and bringing him back was not worth the partial allocation. I was trying to make two points:
1. Leaving him unprotected was a HUGE mistake (I doubt I get much argument there), to the tune of $125k. If he was worth that kind of money to RSL, how much was a protected player like Harris worth? I think Harris should go ask for a raise. That said.....
I just looked at the list and I'm not sure who I would put on there instead of Kreis. The team took a gamble that TFC wouldn't take him and they lost.

2. the argument that Kreis is no longer productive simply doesn't hold water. He was 2nd on the team in goals, and he was especially effective in the games Jeff missed (look them up and you'll see what I mean). That's something to remember if Jeff goes down with an injury next season.
I didn't mean to imply that Kreis wasn't productive. He was and probably will be this year again. I just don't believe that his production was worth the eventual price we will be paying for him at this point. He became too expensive for what he has to offer in my opinion.

There is no way I would have put Harris on the list over Kreis. He was almost as productive as Kreis last year for a fraction of the cost. He also is on his way up in his career instead of on his way down. He will only get better and better for the next couple of years while Kreis will get worse and worse. I don't think that having Kreis over Harris on this team would have been good at all for the long term success of this team.

Sorry for the confusion - my comment wasn't directed at you. It was directed at those fans who think Kreis does nothing on the field.

If Harris had been on the list, however, would Mo have taken him?

I don't know the answer to that question, since we don't know what TFC thought of the other players available in the draft. If Kreis hadn't been available, Mo might have done the same thing with Cobi Jones, for all we know.
