I'm not sure it helps but I don't see how one could argue that it hurts the Rapids.

On first viewing, it doesn't look that bad. But, what you notice in the replays it is was retaliatory from Mathis being taken down by John. He clearly charged John with intent and lifted his elbow sharply. Same ole Mathis. I have so much more respect for our team without him on it.

I can't blame you. I think it shows something else is going on with him. It wasn't something like him needing new environs.

My last good memory of Mathis in person : Scoring the winning goal against KC right at the end of the game at Invesco.

My last bad memory of Mathis in person : Chewing out Kries, one of the guys that was actually having a good game against the Thunder, right in front of south stands at The Jimmy.

That it the most I have seen Mathis run in a couple of years... from the point he gets knocked on his butt to elbowing the guy in the face.

I remember him running some in the chupacabra match last Oct.
I think he must really like revenge matches.

In the Spring of 05 I thought/hoped he would prove the naysayers wrong. But was I wrong. Not for one second this season have I thought "we should have kept Mathis." All his freekick ability is covered with Klein, Kreis, and Williams. Maybe if we need a lowblow next Sunday we'll regret not having him.

I think last year Mathis ran plenty. He doesn't have the work rate of a Trembly or Niko. I think more of the problem is that he isn't good at reading and responding to things defensively. That's not to say he couldn't have been in better shape. I always wonder how much better things may have went had Ellinger not spent 20 something games trying to figure out wether or not Clint could be a 2-way CM.

I'm not sure if even once he's gone the full 90 for the Rapids in a regular season game. I'm not kidding. It's at best been that rare.
