Yes, US - Costa = Superclasico

But as for US trips to Costa Rica, not being humilliated would make it a good trip for us.

-Early '97. Paul Caligiuri earns the lowest rating ever by fans on the Sam's Army site. 2.8 or something like that. Even Mike Burns against Germany in '98 got a 4.5.

-2001. With Preki & Richie Williams in the lineup, the US loses.

In the 2000 Semifinal round, didn't Reyna & Arena get suspended after arguing about the refereeing down there?

Strangely enough, the last time I think that the US got so much as a point in Costa Rica was back in 1985, a few weeks before the Torrance debacle. I think that our NASL rejects, MISL players & college kids took a point down there.

That's exactly my point. It's tough to get even one point out of the CR game down there.

I was curious, so I looked at the stats. In WCQ in San Jose, CR, we're 0-1-5 (W-D-L) all-time, dating back to 1986. At home, we're 4-1-1 in WCQ's. All games not ending in a draw were one point margins except the last one--the 0-2 loss on 5 Sep 01 (that one hurt).

Interestingly, the series only began in 1959, and the USA has the overall edge at 11-5-10 (again, W-D-L).

Disclaimer: All stats from the American Soccer History Archives at:

http://www.sover.net/~spectrum/

It's a good source, but the series results include all games and that means Olympic matches, Pan Am Games, etc. I'm sure someone else may add them up differently.

Bottom Line--we've got a good series going with the Ticos, and it's tough to win in San Jose, Costa Rica!

Me too (Portland)...3 recurring thoughts from that game:
1) first appearance of thundersticks in the US...thanks NIKE πŸ˜‰
2) my goodness Lassiter is worthless...all he does is stand around except when he is putting himself offside πŸ™
3) "Now subbing into the game for the US...Mike Burns....NNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!! 😲

This from Liz at the RSL FO
Quote:
There’s a great buzz in the air with the most recent announcement of Real Salt Lake joining with US Soccer to host a World Cup Qualifier here in Salt Lake. The U.S. will play Costa Rica on Saturday, June 4th followed by Real Salt Lake playing FC Dallas.

The US match on 6/4 (with RSL/FC Dallas) will be available as our gift to FULL season seat investors. Mini-Plans will NOT receive this match in their package but will be able to purchase tickets for this event before it goes on sale to the general public as well as the Full season seat holders. Pricing details and quantities will be announced after discussions with US Soccer.
But all you Season ticket "investors" (I like that!) already got your email ... this is for all the folks that may still be sitting on the fence...

Options (just as a friendly reminder...)

Option 1) a single RSL match vs. FC Dallas and a WCQ in June. Two tix for the Birmingham outing are upwards of $150.00 total

OR

Option 2) Season of RSL Soccer, a WCQ in June and 4 additional matches... That is 16 regular season RSL matches... 4 Additional matches plus a WCQ... not to mention "meet the team" events and that nifty scarf...
For the incredibly affordable price of between $200 and $500 depending on your vantage point...

Maps of possible vantage points and More Information are here and here...

This is a perfect chance to show your loyalty to RSL and your fanatical commitment to the success of Soccer in the USA.

One question... Are you Loyal?

whoa! where are you getting THAT number? There are still tons of $18 tickets available in Birmingham...

Yeah you are right... there are still $18 tickets... the point I was trying to make was that RSL Season Tickets are a better deal... cos you get more soccer, you are supporting the team, keeping the team in Salt Lake, and proving wrong all of the clowns that say soccer will never work in Utah.

I did some pricing a couple of weeks ago because I was thinking about going to Birmingham... and what I came up with was that number based on two mid-range tickets with service charges shipping and taxes...

I have modified my prior comments... thanks

Ok, I was just wondering if maybe my information was bad or something. The $150 tickets scared me. πŸ™‚

I already know that I won't be able to go to almost half of RSL's home games (scout camps, trip to France this summer, etc.), so I'll probably be going a la carte for this season (although I'm still not completely decided against buying season tickets). I would love to get tickets for the USMNT for myself and a bunch of my family, since I will be in town that day, so I just wanted to make sure it wasn't going to cost me thousands of dollars.

Speaking of tickets and such, can someone maybe point me to a thread that explains how the 10-game mini-package works? Are the games assigned to you, or do you choose, or what?

thanks.

Big rep to whoever gets me the answer I need, of course. I know you're excited.
