Ellinger on KALL, 23 Feb [R]

Just heard Coach Ellinger interviewed by Bill Riley on KALL. Got some good questions. Riley did his homework.

Topics:

-Coach was on the line from Liverpool. He saw Liverpool beat Leverkusen yesterday as a guest of Landon Donovan, and today was at the ManU loss to Milan.

-Talked about the bid to buy ManU, and the protests against it--steered clear of the controversy (smart).

-Talked about the preseason results, and commented that at times the team has looked in mid-season form.

-Mentioned the Telemundo broadcast of the RSL-Crew game played in Florida. Game will be broadcast Sunday at 2:00 p.m., but only in Utah. Good news for those of you in the SL area.

-On a question about Luke K., Coach praised the kid but also singled out the defensive effort of Behncke, Akawri, and Dunseth.

-Discussed the acquisition of Jordan Cila. Reasoning--RSL wanted a proven goalscorer to cover USMNT call-ups, and Cila was not part of new CRapids coaching staff's plans.

That's all I caught. Good interview, and very respectful of the coach and team. Riley even talked about the excitement about the team already building up well before a league game is played.

Thanks, Rover!

I caught the end of the interview.

The only thing I can think to add is that Ellinger said that RSL is training in Portugal because Portuguese players are technically sound & play hard. He also mentioned what we already know from the other thread; that they are playing the reserve team of a first division club & 2 second division clubs.

Thanks to Walmart Bunny Ears, it looks like it's snowing at the Mexico - Colombia game in Culiacan (close to Mazatlan) that I'm watching now.

But if I can tape Sunday's RSL game, I will.

Thanks, I know I didn't catch everything.

I've been impressed with Ellinger from the beginning, and was overjoyed when he was appointed coach.

I haven't seen or heard anything to change that opinion. I will say he has a way of explaining the intricacies of the sport that leads me to think he's just smarter than everyone else. I can't say what it is, but he's just confident in his own competence.

We'll see how he does in the weekly grind of an MLS season, but he sure seems to have this thing figured out.

He said this because I was very critical of their backline (which has improved big time). :D JK

I think that someone on BS mentioned that Telemundo will show RSL - Crew on Sund. 6 Mar.

I did not hear the beginning of the interview. Did Ellinger (or whoever) say that it will be this Sunday the 27th?

Rover: "Coach was on the line from Liverpool. He saw Liverpool beat Leverkusen yesterday as a guest of Landon Donovan, and today was at the ManU loss to Milan."

For your information some of us on this forum work. Others work and go to school. Which means we don't see the matches until long after they are broadcast live. To mention a result of a match is a non [R] thread is not acceptable, especially when there is already a [R] dedicated to this topic.

Where are these newly-named mods when we need them??

Thread title fixed. Sorry Arelius, we are all new at this, including Rover.
Remember we are friends here and we make mistakes.

Its a good game if you haven't watched it already, regardless of knowing the result before hand. Although I know that sucks.

I actually watched it late last night, but beforehand I jumped on this forum and started reading this thread. I could see where Rover's post was going and stopped reading until after I had watched the match. My only request is that we keep comments on results limited to [R] threads.

My bust completely. Sorry for the angst. I was reporting what the coach said and didn't connect the dots on the result. Won't happen again.
