🙂

Interesting article. I'm not sure if they are "fer it, or agin it". The list at the end appears to show that they are "agin it". I sent them an e-mail explaining that it does no such thing as most of the things listed are totally invalid and the only one that is valid (the Blittz), was successful.

Monson: Real Salt Lake should do well in Utah

Soccer stadium more likely to succeed as a mixed-use venue

At least they are comparing oranges to oranges. 🙄

Its almost like the DN and the Trib have a good cop/bad cop soccer writers that they aim at RSL every other day. Wait tomorrow the Trib will have a positive report that mentions nothing that was said in this article.

As many of the anti-stadium articles have completely ignored the Blitzz, (but instead mention teams like the Sting and even the Golden Spikers of the mid-70s) I found it ironic that they listed the Blitzz as one of the "failures" of recent years. The Blitzz folded after last year's championship season only because RSL came to town. I have no doubt that if RSL had not come in, the Blitzz would be alive and well.

Monson's article is the first I've seen that actually seems to be an educated opinion by a local sports journalist who treats RSL and MLS as viable. What a concept.

I don't think it's a coincidence that his moderately positive article is backed by actual facts and none of the misstatements and distortions we've come to expect from stories about soccer in either the DN or the SLT. Bottom line--if sportswriters take the time to learn the facts, RSL doesn't look quite so risky.

One of Monson's main points is that Uncle Dave needs to deliver a winner and an exciting product. News Flash--a sportwriter in Salt Lake has written an article telling RSL to put a good team on the field. He didn't question whether there should be an RSL at all.

It's progress. One victory at a time.

Also the women who wrote the other scathing articles are not sports writers, they were business and Utah writers.

The Tribune needs to know that the Blitzz were above water and the outlook even looked better once the new sports group of Ken Garff joined it it looked even better.

I read the article in Sunday's paper, and I didn't think it was that bad.

The only thing that really irked me was the perpetuation of the "soccer is boring..." myth. To me, time outs are boring. Games that last four hours are boring.

But whatever...

I really like watching fast cars go around in circles for hours.
