I have never seen Coach that angry after a game. That was also the shortest post game press conference I have ever attended.

So, uh... is there anyone left to defend Garlick? First half, he makes a bunch of dumb mistakes and injures Akwari. I had a perfect view of his second-half incompetence, including his decision to randomly fall so that Thomson could dribble around him and bury the ball into an open net.

Also, we had at least three open shots that weren't taken. There were some entertaining moments, but we never managed to finish the opportunities (sound familiar?).

There were a few times when Jamie, Andy and others received crosses and should have immediately one touched a lob towards the goal. Instead they just overthink it, dribble and lose possesion.

And there was Klein, Cunningham and Kries who should of done this and that. That game was just an embarrassment. Atleast Andy,Jamie, Talley and a couple of more seemed to play like they cared.

In practice there was a lot of time spent on doing x many passes before making a shot. I think that we need to spend time practicing making 1 pass and hen taking a shot on goal. we do tend to try to much fancy stuff and losing the ball when a shot on goal would have been the better option.

Praxis nailed it. They need to practice taking clear shots when they have the chance, instead of holding the ball while defense closes in on them.

I'm not sure taking shots as a whole is the problem. Yould'd expect the home team to a get a few more off. But if the issue is shooting I think the focus should be on getting more shots on frame. And I wouldn't want to discourage players from being patient on the ball and not forcing passes, definitely not for a team who last year couldn't string together more than 3 passes if their life depended on it.

It's not that passing isn't important, it's that the team gives up opportunities. The reason that teams pass is to create opportunities, not to squander them.

I'm not saying that they shouldn't work on their passing game, but there were several times when open shots weren't taken. It's just as important to learn when to shoot as it is to have a good passing game.

Did you see the game?!?

Yes, passing up shots at the top of the box is a problem. Not scoring at home in 3 games is a problem. Shooting is a real step in solving the problem.

I just took an informal look at the goals chronicled in the 'Sight & Sounds' section of realsaltlake.com. Looking at all of those videos I would say that over half of them are from one touch shots after a pass.

Anyone have a more complete video archive of RSL goals? I guess I could watch the weekly videos from the climbing the ladder site...
