In other news, I was at the front office Thurday and asked about stadium news. With a smile, they told me that a press release would be out soon and to keep an eye out for one. I'd love to read something into this, but it's probably just what the official standard response.

Did they say that the press release would be out in 60 to 90 days?

The article quotes Pastorino as saying just over 35k seats have been sold. Not quite a sell out yet. I thought it would sell out for sure but it looks possible that it won't.
It probably won't sell out if the only seats left are high priced nose bleed seats.

Maybe silence is best until something is completely finalized. Didn’t help the ill-fated Sandy plan to have articles, staff editorials, and public letters condeming it in the papers almost every day. Ideally we’ll see a suitable plan without any public funding (so Joe Public doesn’t sour on the thought of attending games in the future) that keeps the team close by and has the blessing of MLS. And if this happens, I would hope we see our press praise the team and league for listening to the will of the people and doing it all with private money. Second best situation would be a plan using some public funds that is signed sealed and delivered. While the team and the fans would get their stadium and see the team stay in Utah, the downside here of course would be Joe Public. Joe would likely express his displeasure at the polls come November (I won’t lose sleep over that one, I feel that government gets stagnant when you leave the same people in there for a long time and gets fresher when you change things around from time to time). But we would unfortunately see casual fans upset with their money being spent when it is clearly against their desires become less willing to attend games in the future. Also would likely see our wonderful local press bury the team more than ever. Of course worst case is they announce selling or moving the team out of state. Just have to be patient on this one. I feel the team is very possibly doing a lot of work right now, but are going to avoid “showing their hand” until they are ready to do so.

4,000 at Blitzz games? I'm your Resident Blitzz Apologist and that's a pretty bold statement. Maybe in 2003 if you averaged in the USWNT game. Well, if it comes down to that; I'll head down the 15 if I have to. And in a few years, I'll board the Football Special in Salt Lake and ride that down to the stadium.

Maybe they meant that 4,000 people total went to a Blitzz game at some point.

I think Blitzz attendance was likely just a bit lower. More around 2000-3000 most matches with a few notable exceptions like when they had the US Women vs. Ireland, the National Title game in 2001, and the friendlies against the Crapids and Tijuana the first season.
Interesting the article mentioned Dave saying he would move the team to Missouri. Uncle Dave emphasized 2 points quite strongly. One was he would retain ownership in another state. The other was however that he would look to sell the team if something with the stadium doesn't materialize soon. Team might very well end up in St. Louis, given it is traditionally a strong area for soccer, but it won't be owned by Dave if it does.

I sent in my positive response. I still think the whole snowball's chance in Phoenix stuff, but I'm still going to swing public opinion the right way if there's even THAT much of a chance that RSL will end up five minutes away from me.
