Wacky Ideas for RSL

Wacky Ideas

I'm plugging my article because I want to get some reaction - I realize that normally my articles are boring as dirt, but by gum! I never get any reader comments!!

Who is going to want Pope's salary?

Maybe Arena?

Besagno can't vote yet; so he's not into Steve Shak territory yet. Send him to Hannover or someplace this winter to train.

Besagno has the "whining to referees that the player that just smoked him was offside" part of his game down; so maybe some time in Europe will help him with minor details like marking players and playing defense.

Pope idea is interesting; although I love seeing him play, our defense seems to work equally well with or without Eddie, much as I hate to admit it. As far as upsetting people who come to see him as a "name" player-- they aren't really coming to the games anymore, anyway, are they? That's when we dropped from 20K to 16K, or from 16K to 12K in attendance, right? How about rewarding the fans who are still coming to the games with a more exciting and dynamic team?
What about pulling in some more internationals? I'd love to see someone besides CONCACAF players-- how about some Argies or other SAm's? Ecuador has to have some guys that would love a stint in the US now that they are "on the map" with a good WC showing.
Unfortunately, the elephant in the room is the stadium deal; until that gets settled, I'm sure there won't be any changes in anything.

Good ideas Jake.

I have never been much of a Pope fan. He usually plays like he doesn't care much and is only there to pick up a paycheck. I always think back to the Los Angeles game earlier this year when Pope made a mistake and Donovan took the ball away and quickly beat Garlick and made both of them look like fools.

Sure, all players make mistakes but Pope's mistakes seem to come from not giving a damn.

Oh and Garlick, my wishes of Nolly being in goal are not a secret. Garlick seems to care even less than Pope. Normally if RSL gets beat and I have the game on video tape I quickly tape over it or just throw the tape away. But our recent loss in Los Angeles thanks to the two Garlick fiascos have cemented that tape into my video library. His falling down after the balls had gone into the net were classic.

And finally with the Vinyard Stadium proposal, it wouldn't be the end of the world if the team moved there. I am hoping there is something going on behind the scenes with wealthy Salt Lake businessmen that will bring a privately funded stadium to Downtown. If not, Vinyard it shall be.
