I was thinking the same thing.

But you don't see a strong link between Coroon's contributors and Larry H Miller.

I didn't say they went to Corroon.

I am sure he would not make a claim of this magnitude without something to back it up...

Gist of the interview between Dave Checketts and Doug Wright:

DC: We have to look at how we govern the county. 9 members in the council plus a mayor.

One councilman changed his vote because he couldn't get another $3M for WVC. He got $15M but wanted $18M. EVen though he told me that he would vote for it, he voted it down.

DW: Are we going to lose RSL to St. Louis?

DC: I hope not. It would be easy to move it to St. Louis because I own a hockey club there and the mayor is open to what needs to happen to bring it there.

But I want to take some time and see how we want to approach this.

DW: What's different about RSL than your other ventures?

I haven't found the kind of leadership in private enterprise that I found in the '80s. Then, there was a cooperation between private enterprise and public leadership. Now, I have found SLC to be politically divided.

There have been some people working against this behind the scenes. The number one guy working against this stadium is Larry Miller.

DW: Have you moved into his turf?

DC: I think he's worried that the stadium might take some concerts away from the Delta Center.

I just have to step back and take a deep breath and try to get enough courage to try again.

If I do go forward, I'm going to find a way to do it without all these political people being involved. They tell me in my face that they support my efforts but then vote against me.

We will know by Aug. 12 if RSL is meant to stay in Utah.

On it's face, this seems a respectable thing to do, but I'd wager that you can do more harm by talking privately to public officials than talking openly to the general public.

There are many reasons why $35-45m can be a deal breaker.

First, Dave may not have the $$ himself to put into the project right now.

In the private equity realm, there are things that lenders will and won't lend on. Infrastructure may not be high on Uncle Dave's lenders' list.

The amount could make the loan-to-value ratios, which are substantial in determining whether a loan is approved or not, above the lenders comfort level.

Chances are, the stadium will be collateralized by the developoment--meaning the other $350m development will be the collateral used to secure the stadium financing. Parts of the development could be sold to pay off the stadium; whereas the infrastructure is there to stay (and usually becomes city/county property/responsibility).

The private equity may be using the reaction/outcome of the stadium as a barometer for the balance of the development, and may not want to commit to a project facing this amount of adveristy.

Just a few reasons, private equity lenders tend to be quite fickle with projects--espcially projects this large.

He never says he didn't do it...
Cos that would be lying wouldn't it?

Umm isn't that like lobbying? Oh wait... it is lobbying...

so he admits he lobbied against the team and stadium privately... well then as Aerick points out... that does more damage than doing it publicly...

I am curious though... what ever happened to good investigative journalism?

This is going to be really interesting...

My email to Councilman Wilde:

Dear Councilman Wilde:
If its true that you voted against the Real stadium because you didn't get $18M for WVC instead of the $15M that you got, I am writing to express how disappointed I am in your vote.

If that is the case then you are throwing away dollars to focus on the pennies.

Your vote has vetoed one of the states biggest developments and the opportunity to build a world-class soccer stadium.

If you voted no because you didn't get an additional $3M, then shame on you for not providing better leadership.
