Landon Donovan plays for L.A. because he is a pansy and couldn't cut it with the big boys. Was he in Germany? MLS will never be an internationaly respected league when it welcomes heartless washouts back as returning heros. Bruce Arena is right on this one. MLS isn't good enough to prep U.S. nationals to compete with the big boys.
Whatever. Ad hominem attacks on myself or Landon Donovan don't make you right and me wrong.

As long as we have talented players that are capable of playing on World Cup teams for the US, the MLS will continue to draw fans that aren't listed in the "hardcore" category. Without them, we can kiss those fans good-bye. MLS can't survive on only the hardcore fans. I, for one, wouldn't consider myself one of the hardcore fans that would stick around whan all I've got to watch are players that aren't "good enough" to play in Europe. I believe that's what the USL and PDL leagues are, and while I appreciate the fact that they exist, I haven't/aren't/won't spend my hard earned money to watch them play. Why? Because I'm not THAT hardcore. And I'm not alone.

And by the way, I never said that we should welcome him back as a "returning hero". But, he does have talent, and even though he had a bad WC, I think we should be glad he plays here for the success of MLS. Along with the others - Eddie Johnson, Clint Dempsey, Eddie Pope, etc.

Dewd Luv asks , (in effect) "who in Europe wants a guy who just did a very convincing Andy Williams impersonation with a billion people watching?"

the "returning hero" part is in reference to his playing in germany...not once...but twice before the world cup and coming back to MLS with open arms.

I will say, the rest of our MLS talent (outside of pope) played like they belonged out there. The same couldn't be said about the int'ls.

You can't give yourself a banana. that's like giving yourself a high five or laughing at your own joke.
