wow.. so the question is will they be ready to play in '07 or what? It sounds like Wolff just has the option for the next 3 years.

Looks like they can still keep it a two table system if they wanted to.

Lew Wolff, John Fisher acquire a three-year exclusive option for an MLS team

"As part of the exclusive option agreement, the A's ownership group has three years to develop a soccer-specific stadium and purchase an MLS team."

Sounds like much of this hinges on a SSS. Hopefully this new group will succeed where the Earthquakes failed - getting a stadium.

The dude who owns the Oakland A's baseball team is getting more serious about reviving the Earthquakes of San Jose MLS team. They have moved the baseball VP of Sales and Marketing over to Exec VP of Soccer. Interesting. He has been with the team for 14 years, so he is no young whippersnapper, but rather a seasoned veteran.

That is great news for San Jose...

Maybe that is where RSL is going after the Council shoot down the funding plan so they can give LHM more free money!

Seriously though... I Hope San Jose will get it right this time around!

Oakland A's Owners Lew Wolff and Mike Crowley (behind bringing MLS back to San Jose), and their baseball teams General Manager Billy Beane attended the World Cup in Germany for 10 days. Beane enthusiastically shared some of his thoughts with the Bay Area newspaper the Contra Costa Times. "Without question the best sporting event I've ever witnessed. Nothing else is even close."

I've got my fingers crossed they go for it and at that a new MLS franchise, not moving a team.
