500th post to say SoccerPrime is smarter than John Ellinger? I suppose I missed the first 499 unless that is why your post count is so high!

No one has really come out and said it yet, but many of us feel that way, and are ashamed to say it, partially because of how it makes us look, and partially because of the implications if it is true.

Not sure if that has been mentioned, but it seems pretty obvious. You talk about the defensive backs, but how exactly does the ball get in a dangerous spot where they have to make or not make a play?
My point, defense isn't limited to the back 3 or 4. If you play defense as a unit from top to bottom, side to side, the only time the back line should see the ball are on free kicks or possibly throw-ins. I realize that is in theory, but the bottom line is defense starts as soon as the ball is lost and that includes when it's lost on our attacking 3rd. So, Cunningham, Watson, Kries, Williams, whoever (not saying these guys are or aren't doing it) need to apply the immediate pressure, then the next line of defense comes in, midfield, then the next, defensive backs. Just like we expect Eddie to score when he goes up on free kicks or corner kicks.

I didn't see anything wrong with Williams workrate on Saturday. On the contrary. In addition to our lack of defense (blame Ellinger), by pulling Andy, we lacked any real transition from D to offense (blame Ellinger). To compensate for his poor decision Ellinger put in Ballouchy. __________________

Now, on the other hand, I like William. I've been a supporter of him when everyone else is whining about him. I like him so much, I figure he's the guy that we could get the most value for. The problem is we have a team full of A-mids so and holes all over the place otherwise. Seems to me the wise thing to do is to trade one away in order to fill a hole. If you'd like to discuss this, please do. If not, please don't interject Ellinger bashing garbage into this, about the only thread I can find that isn't directly dedicated to Ellinger bashing. We're talking Defense and solutions to that problem here.

Lose by 1, lose by 5, if that's all we're going to do all season, why not get some new guys some experience? Who knows? Maybe one of these guys will step up and get the job done. Goal differentials only matter if you're actually going to compete for the playoffs.
