What's the deal Kreis...(R)

What's the deal with Kries getting that second yellow? I am dumbfounded that the official went to his card that quickly.

I wish the league believed in publicly reprimanding officials as well as players. I also wish they could overturn the automatic suspension.

This is a case where I feel the league needs to issue an immediate and very public appology for the the stupidity of the officials.

Agree, and it's clear that Kennedy did not remember that he'd already carded Kreis since Gomez from the Galaxy had to remind him to pull out the red. That's just poor officiating. And Michael Kennedy is one of our better officials in MLS, so you can see what we're up against each week.

The problem here is that Kreis' reaction falls clearly into the realm of dissent, a yellow card offense. The fact that officials usually ignore frustration reactions like Kreis' doesn't mean they can't pull the card. Remember the ridiculous card Mathis received in the home opener last year.

It was a horrible call. I still don't blame the game on the ref and in general don't like to bag on them. But that call was a stinker.

That is kind of funny... when I did my level 5 certification, we were specifically instructed to allow players an initial protest and (with in reason) prolonged protests from team captains. Kries was immediately carded for the initial protest and as team captain should have been allowed more leniancy than other players. Also, we were specifically instructed to look in our books before ever issuing a card of any color. Why, because it gives you time to make sure you feel a card is waranted and also allows you to check and see what warnings/cards you have previously issued. If either of these had been followed, Jason would not have been sent off.

Correct me if I am wrong, but isn't Mr. Kennedy a level 1 referee... which would indicate that he should have recieved the same instruction I had at level 5?

I have to admit that I don't know exactly what was said by Jason, but this was clearly a very poor judgement by the official. He had issued the first card less than 5 minutes earlier. I feel this is case where the official felt that he had to make sure he wasn't "upstaged" by a player.

Mr. Kennedy, do soccer a favor and get over your ego and/or stupidity, what ever it was that caused you to make such a blunder.

You're quite right. Officials are instructed to allow players some momentary lapses when they're frustrated. I think this is clearly a case where Kennedy was overstepping his task of keeping the game flowing. As Wynalda said at the time, the game isn't about him but that's the way he handled it.

Unfortunately for Kreis, he clearly directed his frustration at the official. That opened the door for a trigger happy ref. You wonder if Kennedy would have gone to his pocket so quickly if he had remembered that he'd already carded Kreis.

I'm not saying he was right to do it. I'm saying he was within the parameters of the Laws of the Game to do it. The point is, this is not something anyone is going to take back.

In the end, it's just another indication of poor game management by an official who has the experience to know better. And it costs us our best player next week.

I usually try hard not to complaing about officiating as it is out of the team's control, and wonder sometimes if we as RSL fans don't see things from a biased point of view, but I've been reading some of the threads on BigSoccer, and fans from all over the league are commenting about today's match giving RSL their sympathy and saying that RSL, and in particular Jason, deserved better. I lot of neutral observers say that simply put, we got screwed today.

I should note that all too often, I hear the boos, angry shouts of frustration, and see debris thrown from the stands in our stadium over calls and non-calls. I just don't remember observing this sort of behavior so often from the fans when we're on the road. Are Salt Lake fans the only ones in the country who get upset about officiating, or are we just seeming to get more than our share of one-sided officiating in Rice-Eccles?

Too bad for Jason. He lost his cool out there, but his treatment appears to have been a bit harsh.

Ah, I could start ranting about what took place with the guys in the yellow shirts, but it won't change the score and just make me look like a whiner.

Let's just hope we can put this behind us and somehow get a win soon.

Forget the card, wasn't that a tremendously horrible card that should have resulted in a PK?!?!?!?!?

Maybe I didn't see it right, but it totally looked like he was full blown pushed from behind, and was in the box when it happened. In fact, when the play stopped, and the ref blew the whistle I was so excited because I thought we had a PK coming our way. Boy, was I disappointed!!!!! 😠

i don't blame the game on the ref, but at the same time he didn't help us ...

he gave several calls against us for small tugs, and yet let shoves, tugs etc go when committed against us. You could see by the growing frustration within the RSL players that they knew he wasn't doing a good job as an official. And a frustrated player never plays as well as he can ...

As for Kreis .... How could the ref not see the push? even if he cards Kreis for disent ... wheres the fk for the push?

I don't blame the game on the ref either but it was crazy that Albright gave Kreis a full push and it was a no call!!! I was so angry! Also I agree with whoever talked about throwing things on the field. What is it with the fans here that they don't cheer during the game but will throw things on the field over calls/no calls. Crazy!
