The first card on Kreis was questionable as well. Not questionable as to whether or not it was actually a cardable offense, per se, just questionable in the sense that it was the exact same type of foul that had been committed by other players (LAG and RSL alike) several times already during the game.
It's almost as if the official realized "Oh, @#$%. There are only like 10 minutes left in the game and I haven't reached my quota yet. Better start carding!"

The first card on Kreis was not questionable. Sorry.
The second one was quick and slightly harsh, but we don't know what Jason said. Also, his reaction was not a standard "Initial protest" it was vociferous and Kennedy was well within his rights to pull out the yellow. If it was his first yellow, I don't think anyone would be protesting this much, and this is the part that I will stress: if it's worthy of a first yellow card, it's worthy of as second. I don't see the point in allowing a foul or whatever go just because someone's on a yellow card. A yellow card is called a 'caution' because it means you have to watch your behavior after you get one!

Albright knew he got away with one after the double arm push in the back and the subsequent second yellow. I think he knew Jason got the royal screw job too. Watch the replay if you have it and you'll see Albright patting Jason on the back as if to say "sorry about that."

Would I be protesting as much... no. Would I still feel that the card was inappropriate? Yes. As for the "Initial protest," what is the standard? Players yelling and flailing their arms is by no strech unsual. True, we don't know what was said. But he didn't have much more time than to say "That's Bull S*@T" before the card was issued. So, it is hard to immagine what was said that would have possibly justified the card. P.S. Bonus points for using using big words... for those of you who aren't 100% sure what it means, "vociferous" in this context is a fancy way of saying "unusually strong." __________________

I guess I just meant that it seemed especially OTT. Yeah, players will wave their arms and such, but it's a lot rarer to see the amount of emotion in it as Jason exhibited on this occasion. When I get home I'll fire up the TiVo and see if I can read his lips.

Actually given the amount of shoving and pushing that the Galaxy did without a card (I believe their only yellow of the entire match was when their player lost the ball out of bounds and kicked the ball far down the pitch in disgust) Jason's first yellow was quite inconsistent. We had our players pushed from behind with both hands with no attempt to play the ball on a few occasions without seeing a yellow shown to the LA player. As for a second yellow which technically the decision to book a player shouldn't matter whether or not they are carrying a yellow already, most referees are more lenient when it comes to the second yellow. Whether or not that is what the rule book says, THAT is how most referees officiate a match. A few posters here and on bigsoccer have noted that Kennedy booked Jason for dissent and was ready to start the game again before being reminded that he had booked Jason a few minutes earlier. (Normally when a player receives a second yellow, the red card is shown right after the yellow, as soon as the referee can remove it from his pocket. This time it was 10-20 seconds later.) It really looked like Kennedy forgot who he had booked and you wonder if he would have shown the second yellow if he had remembered Jason was carrying a card. Additionally, Jason was the captain and as such, is expected to be afforded a bit more leeway when it comes to discussing matters like this. At least 2 Galaxy supporters on bigsoccer on their board said Jason got treated harshly. In any case, RSL just has to get on with business. The calls really seemed to go against us the first 2 home games, but maybe when you are slumping everything (from bad calls, to bad bounces, to wind gusts, and a lot of other things) just seem to against you. We just have to keep on improving and giving the best effort we can on the pitch and try to get this turned around, the sooner the better. Jason, for his part, has taken his lumps. He admits talking back and telling the official he thought he was doing a poor job and has not strongly spoken out about being treated unfairly. He's shown some class throughout this and simply want to quietly sit out next week so he can ready to get back out there in a few weeks.

On the funny side, my buddy and I saw Kreis at the reserve game yesterday. He walked by and we said, "Jason, tough break with the red card yesterday." He turned and said, "Yep, sure was." Then my buddy asked, "You want us to go shoot the ref?" Jason laughed and said, "Think you can find him?"
We got a pretty good laugh from that. __________________

Really? So you think that foul was more egregious than any of the other fouls that had occurred to that point in the match?

Sure looked like your basic professional foul to me. __________________
