Random thoughts:

Brown was dangerous as a midfielder during this game, although he was intended to be a defender when inserted. Which also made for a dangerous defense.

Take away the goal from Atiba Harris, and I still think he had some impressive moments. He is very physical, and is the only forward this season who has been able to get in front of his defender on long balls, hold him off, and control the ball. I don't think it's time to give up on him yet.

I couldn't believe the deluge of callers in the post-game radio show who were criticizing Andy Williams. Were we watching the same game? Am I an idiot? Perhaps. But I thought that Andy performed very well in the 45 minutes that he was in. The first 20 minutes of the game were perhaps the best 20 minutes he's played this season. He was active in all aspects of the game. Yes, he made some overly-anxious decisions sometimes, and he'll lose the ball, but that's NORMAL for someone who HANDLES THE BALL THAT MUCH. I guess to not be criticized maybe he should have been more invisible, like Chris Klein. Or maybe Pope, who played perhaps the worst game of his RSL career.

Speaking of Klein, he was much more valuable in the second half. He seems to keep it going in the second half when everyone else is wearing down.

Speaking of wearing down, let's not get carried away with excitement over the performance of Ballouchy. Remember that he did come in at the 71st minute, and benefitted from being 71 minutes more fresh than the majority of the rest of the players on both teams. But yes, he did look good in the midfield. Pretty promising.

Garlick is giving me flashbacks of DJ.

Kreis looked fantastic.

The officiating was right on par for your average game at RES.

Coach E...man, I dunno. RSL looked somewhat unfocused for the middle 30 minutes or so of the game. I believe that's something that coaching should be responsible for. The subs were questionable, but actually worked out better than I had imagined they would. We gotta get some results.

Donovan is fast.

Turf sucks. When is the new stadium going to be done?

WTF! The Hercules goal...... let's look at the replay, which I'm doing right now (by the way, i'm about 1:04 in with the red wig wiping my nose).

Talley, makes a break to help Pope with Donovan leaving Gomez open for the pass...huh?

Brown: keeping Gomez onsides by playing D on his man...huh?

Klein: calling for off sides

Garlick: caught leaning....

wow. what a fantastic play by a lot of our boys on D. >:-(

My musings about this game:

I sure had high hopes after the first goal. The team looked together and focused. It was kind of like once LA lost their captian, either RSL let down or LAG picked it up, but either way, we saw two different attitudes there.

I thought the subs were confusing if taken indivudually, but made sense as a team that needed a quick kick in the pants. We sure saw more fire. What was more confusing was who was playing where. I distinctly saw Kreis playing deap defense on a few occations while DS was up in an A-mid possition. I'm not sure Brown was given a position. He could be found on any side or depth of the field. I wonder if he was told to just get out there and made things happen. (Unfortunately, that resulted in another goal for LAG before RSL's.)

The rookies brought a ton of energy, but not a lot of discipline. Johnson in the first half, and Harris/Mehdi in the second. I say scrap this season and spend the rest of the year working on developing these guys into great players.

William is a confusing player. Flashes of brilliance followed by a stupid, bouncing pass on turf right in front of the fastest attacker in the league. Yeh, Pope should have done something with it, but turf can really mess things up.

You can't play 3 backs on turf. There aren't 3 defenders in the league with the kind of speed necessary to keep up with all those weird bounces.

Start playing the rookies more, trade Williams and pick up some defensive speed.

I'm not sure about Garlick. Last week, he kept the game at 0-0 for the first half. This week, I can't say he made any glaring mistakes, but he never looked BIG between the posts. It just seemed their was always more goal to shoot at on our defensive side.

After attending the game, I scanned through a recording of the ESPN2 broadcast.

When Kreis was given the second yellow, the commenter called the ref a "pea****". It was pretty funny.

That's a weird censor. He was talking about the bird.

Yeah, the irony of Waldo calling anyone out for being egotistical was totally sublime, haha...

Ok, I hope you are all sitting down because today I got the lead of a lifetime. After dropping the Riot Squad guys at the airport I stopped at Wendy's to get my daughter some food. The server there noted our RSL jerseys we were wearing and asked if there was a game. I told him there was one in Park City....and he leaned forward and sort of whispered in my ear...."I hear that we (RSL) are trading Jason Kreis to the LA Galaxy in exchange for Landon Donovan". 😲

I started to explain to the guy that that really couldnt happen unless there was ALOT more to the story but.... he was so excited he had "inside information"...I thought I would allow him his happiness.

Here is to the rumor mill! :wine:
