Too Quiet

First and for most, it was a exciting, entertaining game. The only thing better would have been the three points. Not sure anyone would disagree.

Now for the actual thread...
This is directed primarily to the support groups, Loyalist, RCB and whoever else is out there. You guys are too quiet on your chants! Now don't take this the wrong way, the fact that you have them is awesome. Yet, as I was hearing the "Beatles" chant last night, I thought to myself, wouldn't that sound incredible if the entire stadium was chanting in unison?
Maybe not the specific chant, but you see what I'm sayin'? I'm not sure if it is a fair comparison, but wouldn't it be great to be the first fans in the league to bring that European feel to the MLS game? I know when I watch some of the matches from over seas and it's pretty impresive when the commintators will stop just to listen to the chant.

So why is this directed to the support groups and not fans in general?
1. you have some good chants already
2. you have a voice with the FO.
2a. perhaps you could use that voice to have the FO help promote chants.
Say put the words on the jumbo-tron?
3. you're enthusiasm could be addicting to the other fans

Anyway, your thoughts...

Too quiet? Most of us this morning don't have a voice left because we screamed so loud.

It just comes down to numbers. If there are about 30 Loyalists standing together and about 30 RCBers together that's only 60 people out of 16,000 total fans. Its just not going to sound very loud.

It's hard to get the crowd all together in a chant. Alot of people in the crowd may not want to do a chant. They just may want to clap and yell when something exciting happens.

We even chanted last night "Get on your feet, get on your feet" directed to everyone on the north side of the stadium and I think I saw one maybe two people stand up.

Its just going to take time to teach people how to get into a soccer game.

No, No, No....I'm not saying you guys are too quiet. The stadium in general. There are times I wonder if the other fans are watching is all. Also, you've got to give the rest of the stadium a little credit. Where I'm sure there are some that wouldn't join, I'm sure a majority would catch on to the fun of it. It'd become like singin in the car. Everyone does it

I agree the stadium in general was too quiet. The area I sit in rocks and we were cheering, chanting, making some kind of noise almost the whole game. It did feel like we didnt have nearly as many ppl as last year, but I attribute that to the RCB moving and it being the beginning of the season. Also having opening game on a holiday weekend doesnt help. Im not sure what we can do to get the rest of the stadium motivated. I think we have talked about getting the words to the chants put on the jumbotron and also about handing out papers with the words in them. Not sure whatelse we can do other than continuing what we are doing. Could we put the words to some of the chants in the program? Maybe spread some ppl out to other sections to coordinate the cheers with us? Knowing Utah....many ppl just prefer to sit and enjoy. I remember being at quite a few concerts here and being forced to stop dancing and sit down and be quiet! That is how I felt in the section I started out in last season. Then I decided to move over near the Loyalist section....and my life changed forever! LOL.

Ironically, the Kickin for Chicken section was NOT quiet last night... I'm surprised the whole stadium didn't hear the guys at the top of the section yelling for Jamie Watson throughout the entire second half, hahahaha.

Did RCB have a hand in getting them going? If so, kudo's to those guys!

I'm concerned about the lack of a united voice during our chants now that RCB is gone. I'm still in a "wait and see" mode, because perhaps something will organically occur because of the move that may end up being as good or better as a result. However, if after a few more games it still feels like we're having a hard time getting the rest of the stadium to at least join in on the "Ole, Ole, Ole, Ole" chant, then we need to do something about it.

I had someone telling me just this morning that on the west side no one could hear anything out of either group on the east side. IMO it was a lot nicer when we were all together and there was more of a unified voice, people could actually hear us then.

I could hear an "Ole Ole" chant very clearly over the DK transmission. The crowd actually sounded really loud the whole game. Props to everyone. Regarding one voice--I think the Loyalists main song leader was gone yesterday, right? He'll probably unify the section a little more when he's able to attend.

i was going to say that too ... not to mention there were a lot of people that i saw look over at us then just to go back to watching the game so it wasn't as if they didn't hear us ... just that the preferred ignoring us

if the announcers at half time ask for a cheer everyone does it ... we try and start one we get ignored... I know there has to be a lot of people out there that would get involved in the chants, but more a case at the moment that they feel that if they join in they'd be the only ones in their section joining in and so feel a bit self conscious and don't sing along.

The way to go at the moment might be to just expand RCB and loyalists as fast as possible. Let everyone know they're welcome to come and chant with us. Once both groups are a bigger (like each group taking up 1/3 of the east stand) the middle 1/3 will hopefully find it hard pushed not to join in ... with chanting on both sides of them. From there we spread.

Question is ... how do we recruit more people to RCB and loyalists in that many numbers without waiting 5 years?

Go talk to them, meet them.... dont wait for them to come to us.... just sitting in a booth or having a site online or signs at the games isnt enough. Treat it like its a business and get out there and meet people. Like the sales reps do all game. Perhaps have an event planned for the next game and invite people from this game to the event next game.... Have written info in the program with websites and emails listed. Make people feel welcome, not excluded.... And darned it...both of the fan club groups need to get along and work together. Neither group is better than the other (I am a member of both groups...and the GDI), they are just different. The only competition that should be happening around the game is the competition between our team and our opponents. Having the two groups fighting all the time is a turn off and scares people away. As far as I can tell, we have similiar goals and want a similiar atmosphere at the games so we need to work together to get it to become a reality. I would say our first priorty should be to sit down and work TOGETHER. RCB, the Loyalists, Board members, not board members, the FO, and just regular fans that arent members of either group. Everyone needs to be included and everyone needs to feel a part of what is going on.
