RSL vs. FC Dallas: What didn't you like?

So, what didn't YOU like about the game? I'll start.

1. Williams. Brown.
2. Still pretty unorganized in the defensive third.
3. Garlick had some Countessesque moments...
4. Ellinger confuses me. Why not bring in Watson for Williams? Or even Atiba for Williams? Why did he pull Ballouchy?

Better game than last week, but we still have a long way to go!!! Good job tonight, though, boys.

Brian Crapface Hall. I swear that Crapface is his actual middle name.

I'm not sure Tally is our answer in central defense.
Brown is still horrible with his passes out of the back and he is, at best, a stop gap as a defender.
Eddie Pope is going to have his hands full covering for those two until World Cup time.
Torres shows some promise.
Overall I liked the effort and Klein's strike was amazing.

Ballouchy had ran out of gas. No use having a guy out on the pitch when that's happened. Especially when you've got to get a goal to walk away with a tie.

The defense did struggle with the long ball at times. But I'm not sure how much of it was due to organization versus if Dallas knocks a 100 long balls up the pitch, 30 of them are bound to cause trouble. I was frustrated by Arturo's goal because he really absent from the game before then. Seemed like some space was opened up for him. Did Ballouchy not drop back to cover when Brown went up?

I'd like to see 3 in the back going forward. I did like to seeing Kreis get some more time on the pitch. I liked Mehdi in the first half. His touch was so sweet I found myself falling in love and wanting to marry him. 😁 I don't think he's ready to be the man just yet. But I wouldn't be suprised to see Williams gone next summer.

I liked having Cutler and Sequiera together. DS seems to want to make his runs wether or not someone's back there. With Cutler in, you'll know he'll be there. Other than Kenny trying to get cute 30 yards in front of his goal and giving the ball up in an insanely dangerous spot, I liked his play. I'll even be brazen enough to say he can outhustle anyone on the team, even Jamie.

I liked Cunninham in there. He looked hungry. He could've got an assist on a nice layoff to Medhi for the open shot (MB didn't take the quick shot and learned the hard way that this isn't college ball). I think that frustrated him a bit but it didn't keep him for not sharing the ball a bit. I like to see that in a striker. Someone that's looking to take the shot but can see when someone else is a better position for it.

I thought Talley and Pope did a pretty good job together.

1. Too many lapses in concentration. Why is this? Why can't our guys maintain their concentration for a full 90. Giving up the goal right before half was a killer.

2. What was Garlick doing on the first goal? What was Garlick doing when they hit the post right before half? I have heard folks rave about his positioning, but I haven't been as impressed as I would have hoped. He is a good keeper and has good positioning. He isn't great though.

3. Chris Brown. The second goal I put a lot of the blame on Chris. He misjudged that cross and it just sailed over his head to the FC Dallas player. His passing out of the back it pitiful! What are the other realistic options to replace Chris?

4. Why do we seem to win less that 25% of the clearances out of the back? It drives me nuts to see the ball cleared upfield to the other team. Can't we build up out of the back or at least clear the ball to a place where we have a fighting chance to get it?

Is Cabrera injured? If not, why are we using up a foreigner spot on a guy buried on the bench?

That is basically who I had in mind. He has a fair bit of national team experience and played well last year on the outside. I am quite confused why he is not starting. Has he not shown well at practice?

What I didn't like:

1. All the complaining about this game by the fans. We were inches from a result several times and we played very well. We ended up losing by 1 goal on the road to the 1st place team in the league. Play that game in SLC and we get points. Relax people, things are looking up. That said...

2. Once again, when will the Chris Brown at fullback experiment end?

3. I'd like to see a goal in the run of play, but then again we almost had several.

But there was a ton to like. I'm impressed with Ballouchy - smart midfielder, doesn't make decisions with the ball like a rookie (knows when to move forward or back), needs to work on his D. Douglas was outstanding and really worked hard. The defensive pressure made me smile, and we had more sustained possession than we did at any time last year. Cheer up folks, if keep playing like we played in Dallas, we WILL earn points Saturday.

I don't think anyone here is overly depressed about our game against FC Dallas. I was positively glowing afterward. This thread was never meant to be a "FIRE ELLINGER" or "RSL's BLACK MONDAY" thread. This thread is all about where we think our team can improve, nothing more.

RSL still has a long way to go, I think, if it's going to compete for a playoff spot this year. Not only did we miss a lot of good chances, so did FC Dallas. Had either team converted all of their decent chances on goal, it would have been a blowout either way.

I was pretty impressed with our midfield during the game. The defense still needs work, however, as does our finishing. We played 10 times better than we played against Chivas, and that was enough for me. I don't mind the loss. I don't mind wins either, however.
