You know what pisses me off? You know that Crockett and his punks never even gave Dave a chance or really took a moment to listen to what he had to say. All they were thinking were, "Here's our chance to tear in to Checketts and make ourselves look good."

I think a huge banner "professing our love for Crockett and his mafia" is due this year in Rice Eccles.

I read this earlier this morning and have been flying high all morning. It is all I have been able to think about. To me this is a great sign that the FO cares about developing RSL if they are bringing in big name teams. I am a big fan of La Liga so I naturally assumed it was Real Madrid. I can see how some would argue for Man U though. Personally, if a team was to bring and play all of their stars (never going to happen) I would prefer to see Barcelona hands down. Chelski wouldn't be too bad though. It would certainly be entertaining to watch Mourinho at a minimum 🙂

I can't believe that with all of our insider info that no one knows who this will be. The article uses the words "will host" which to me means it is a done deal. I understand that something could have been lost in translation though. Was anyone at the meeting to actually confirm what Uncle Dave said?

A couple points:

Safe to say that some on the Salt Lake County Counsel are not in the least bit happy about getting told to finance the stadium by the Legislature. Let's hope this is more about venting than close-mindedness.

I loved that one of them wants MLS to open their books to SL County. I'm sure AEG and the Hunts will be all for that. (Of course, maybe this would get Anschuitz (sp?) motivated to just buy the whole county...I'm pretty sure he could afford it...)

I actually understand that the County would like to know more about the finances or financiers backing Checketts. He has been very quiet about this issue, and, if the county is going to back bonds to get this done, they probably have the right to look behind the curtain. With that being said, a couple of the blow-hards came off as very unprofessional in that report...I doubt that Checketts wants this private information blabbed by people who lack discretion.

What is their guarantee that MLS won't fold...jees guys, that is so 2000...get with the program...

I also understand that why RSL is not thrilled about releasing its financials from last year and prefers to talk about what the finances will look like when they have the stadium. Again, this is a discretion issue. There is no reason to believe that the County will not look at last year's big losses (yes, they had big losses) and figure the team would fold...without comprehending that the finances would be very different with their own stadium. (Of course, proof of the losses could finanally shut up the idiotic "stay at RES" counselperson).

All in all, not unexpected, but you would think that a counselperson would have the good sense to treat a person who is investing millions of dollars in your community with more respect.

BTW...2nd season...season ticks (and equivalents) up to 7,000. Good job front office.

yeah, we saw the article, and as furious as I am that Miller can get any amount of money he wants for any project in the valley (if we ever got a MLB team, I agree with Stucki, they city/county would pay for all of it) while Uncle Dave stood before the firing squad...

but that bullet point.... what can I say, I'm curious.

Son of a *****! Look at this quote from Crockett in this Des News article.

http://deseretnews.com/dn/view/0,1249,635193527,00.html

Crockett said county taxpayers shouldn't be subsidizing a private business.

"Who wouldn't want a soccer stadium? Who wouldn't want a great team in town?" Crockett said. "I would also like a house in Spain and a Ferrari. But I could not ask countywide residents to use their money to pay for it. It's about whether or not it is the best use of countywide funds for use to subsidize a soccer stadium."

With regards to bringing in "the world's most famous team." Do we think a world powerhouse team would come and play on fieldturf?

Are we talking about putting sod down again in Rice Eccles or is it possible we may be seeing a game this year at Lavel Edwards stadium?

Help me understand this...

Those against the stadium say we should listen to the people and have a vote, a referendum to see what the people say.

isn't that why we elected the officials. aren't they the voice of the people? If they put it to a vote of the public, why even have an elected official? I don't get a say on anything else. With me, it's all or nothing. You want my say, give me my say all the time. 9 times out of 10 the legislative body wouldn't like what the people would say.

If you want my vote: here it is. Just build the damn stadium already.

With Checkett's love for and connections with Real, my money is that it is Real Madrid.
Chances are these were Dave's words: "the most famous team in soccer." He truly believes that Real Madrid is the top club in the world.
