People deal with things and move on... That is all part of growing up.

Last season was a growing and learning experience for alot of people. I learned alot last season and grew... well my belly got bigger anyway... 😉

optimism is always a good character trait!

Actually, my thing is the continuous flogging of politicians.

You can't resist political participation through soccer. Look at what's happening right now. There are a lot of people out there participating politically becuase of RSL. Face it, the stadium and alcohol are hot political issues. They can't be ignored because there is also a game being played.

We, as humans, will never be able to completely remove sociopolitics from sports, ever. I just think we do a much more effective job of it here in the States, and I think it is very healthy: for the fans, for the leagues, for the players and teams, for everyone.

On a sidenote: what would the world be like if wars were decided by soccer matches between nations and boxing matches between leaders? I think pay-per-view would make a LOT of money...

The stadium isn't really the issue, it's the money that is the heart of the matter. It could just as easily be a library, planetarium, or aquarium instead of a stadium.

And alcohol is only an issue because it is seen by some as Mormons trying to control the world again. It's a Mormon vs. non-Mormon issue at heart. It's not really about the alcohol at all otherwise these same discussions would have happened because alcohol isn't served at RES. This could also just as easily be an argument about strip club or a restaurant trying to get a liquor license. People would be having the exact same reactions to those things as well.

At their heart, soccer really has nothing to do with either of these political issues.

I absolutely intend to try. As I said, the game itself has nothing at all to do with the issues.

Remember last year when Rocky Anderson was roundly booed at the season opener?

What do you think will happen if Tom Dolan is introduced this year?

People will express their political opinions at a soccer game with their voices an their fingers.

A lot fewer people would be hurt. I for one would order PPV if Bush and Saddam were to put on the gloves.

Again, that has nothing at all to do with soccer. That happens anytime a public official is introduced in a public setting. The same thing would happen before a movie or hockey game if Anderson were introduced.

There isn't anything at all inherently political about soccer. It's just a game. A lot of people want to use it as a mask or excuse to get some political point across, but when it comes right down to it, that point is never actually about the soccer being played on the field.
