Dynamo.

OK.

When I see the name, I think Dinamo Kiev. You know, like DEE-na-mo.

Was Red Star Houston taken?

Something tells me opposing fans will be having some fun with this one.

For entertainment value, I suggest looking over the press release as it details the historical links between Houston and dynamo.

And in a surprise, the press conference was held at the Museum of Natural Science's Wiess Energy Hall. First time for everything.

Seriously though, how many teams have the word Dynamo (also spelled Dinamo) in their name?
Moscow, Russia
Kiev, Ukraine
Bucharest, Hungary
Zagreb, Yugoslavia
Berlin, East Germany
Dresden, East Germany

Why were they called Dynamo?
During the communist regimes of these nations, each team was controlled by the secret police, which made sure its club had the best players.

Well apparently I will have to be the voice of dissent here... I actually like the name.
It is much better than Lone Stars, Apollos, Texans, Oilers, Rockets, Astros... etc... etc...
I thought roughnecks would be goodbut I heard it is reserved for a possible Tulsa MLS team.

So the truth of the matter, Houston Dynamo is controlled by the secret police aka; the Houston mafia!

Here is a picture of their most recent match:

Is it just me or do these logos look strikingly familiar? Couldn't they come up with something a little more original? Or were they consciously trying to form some sort of assocation with the Quakes?
