MLS, under strong pressure from U.S. Soccer, will switch to the traditional fall-spring schedule in order to aid national team development and align itself with Europe. In so doing, MLS will discover what others have known for some time now — that a spring 2007 "transitional championship" game will attract real media attention in sharp contrast to a another "Who cares?" 2006 final...
hmmmm this one is the only one I like/agree with.

Agree with? Perhaps, but I seriously doubt it ever happens. Not in 2006/2007.

I am still trying to get over the bold prediction of Cleveland getting an MLS team in 2007. The "investors" that made the MLS bid there just folded their MISL team...

I was thinking the same thing on in Cleveland.

And that fall-spring thing is the biggest piece of blatant bull**** I've seen from a columnist in quite some time. And I saw that seeing a columnists job to spout crap that gets peoples attention and get them talking. Why would the league have the run-in the NFL playoffs, NHL, spring training and NBA all overshadow their league play? And have a MLS Cup that would occur at the very time the NHL and NBA were having their championships plus the run-in would contend with March madness. Because it would better the USNT development? So Checketts is spending tens of millions on RSL for the sake of improving the nats? So Uncle Phil poured hundreds of millions of dollars into the MLS to make the US Men a better team in the world? WTF??!? Is Trecker really that daft that he doesn't understand why investors invest money? Seriously, someone put that guy out of his misery, PLEASE.

One suggestion I heard is that the league would start earlier and end later, taking a "summer break" and then a couple of months off over the holidays as the "offseason". The championship would still be in the fall though.
