Yeah, pretty much no one liked it. I'm glad they stuck with it, though. I can't believe I wanted it to be "Highlanders". That sounds so lame now. What was I thinking?

It just goes to show....fan polls mean little when it comes to naming a team. Welcome to MLS HR FC.

I was at the FO one day and one of the FO employees pulled out an old binder and showed Glenn and I the logos, color mockups, etc. for all of the different names they considered--and YES, I am not joking you... they even included BOOM. *shudder*
So I'm not saying this means anything to Houston, but there is a chance that this is just one of several designs they are reviewing to help their decision process. Salt Lake, at least, had all the designs and colors worked out for a lot of different choices before making a final decision.

Oh! But I hope they go with this logo, because think of all the awesome ways to make fun of a sissy little train!

Here's the official "name the team" choices:
Apollos Americans Bulls Buffalos Eagles Generals Gatos Houston 1836 Lonestars Mustangs Stallions Stars Toros "Apollos?" I get the reference, but really? I mean, Houston's the new San Francisco and everything, but having a Greek god as your mascot is, well, kinda fruity. Might has well name them the Houston Swish. And FYI, I'm in favor of Houston Republic FC 1836, if only to continue the European-ization of MLS. None of this second- or third-tier American football/comic book names. I'm still kinda bummed we're not Salt Lake Hotspur FC. :punk:

Republic of *choose your favorite derogatory term--I prefer "crapdom" although it sounds too close to cRapids*

Also when Checketts read the possible names list to the Chamber of Commerce, they clapped at everyone BUT Real. There was dead silence in the room. HA! :dancing:
