Royalty,royal (real en Espanol) should imply all things courtly. Loyal followers, fancy dress worn to pigout banquets, lots of relatives on the dole, syncopats trolling for influence, dignitaries calling from distant kingdoms, bored military officers and junior nobilty conspiring for power, spies and gossipers. Not all of these would make a very interesting mascot. But the universal participant in courtly life was the Jester. Without Jay Leno on TV the royals hired comedians, pantominists, tumblers, juglers, social commentators, satirists, and management humility reminders to entertain and speak the un-speakable truth without losing his (or someone elses) head.

I have noticed a few jester hats in the stadium.
