Salt Lake City is MLS expansion team despite shortcomings Thought this was interesting to go back and read. Robert Wagman wrote this article for Soccer Times on 14 July 2004 (Founder's Day).
Link is here. Here's a sample of the typical naysaying going on at the time: "The biggest question mark is whether there is a fan base in smallish Salt Lake -- in 2000, the city population was 181,743 with a metropolitan-area population of 1.33 million) -- which will support professional soccer." Uh . . . yes, Bob, there is. __________________

I think it would be fun to look at it as a NYC writer talking about the Metros in 1996.
"The biggest question mark is whether there is a fan base in largish NYC -- in 2000, the city population was 8,000,000 with a metropolitan-area population of 21 million) -- which will support professional soccer." | |||||

VERY good point! And, of course, we've proved OUR case. Any questions? __________________
