Your ideas for the perfect RSL stadium

Perhaps the blueprints are already done but Mr Pastorino did mention at one point he would like fan input on what can be done to make our new stadium the best in MLS.

So let the fun begin! But try to be realistic, I know we would all like "Old Trafford" but a stadium like that just isn't going to happen.

(When possible, please post a picture to help others visualize your suggestions.)

Real Salt Lake spelled out in the seats.

Old Trafford, ha! I'd like Maracana, but I don't think we'll get 100,000 fans to the matches until we've become a dynasty.

Seriously, I'd like something intimate where the fans are down on the pitch with the players. I'd like it to be different from any other sporting venue in the world. This means that it will have to be architecturally innovative, I'm not an architect, so this will have to be up to them. Basically, I want it to be a Utah landmark, a feat in architecture, and a soccer Mecca. I know those are vague distinctions. The most important features to me are:

1. Intimacy between fans and players.
2. Shaded seating.
3. Ample parking
4. Proximity to my home.

If I can get 2 out of 4 of those, I'll be happy. Heck, I'll still go to the games even if the stadium is a dump and 50 miles from my home. I'll still go even if we go 0-0-32 and get beat by the worst team in the USFL.

I just hope they make it a place where the best players in the world want to come and play. Perhaps the FO could swoon Wayne Rooney or Michael Owen to come to Salt Lake with the proper facilities. (I'm dreaming, I know).

No Stage!

Let's make this a soccer stadium, not some multi-use thing that requires one entire end to be occupied by some gigantic structure that could be mistaken for a truck stop/diesel fuel station. Like Dallas,

West Ham's stadium looks like a castle. In keeping with the royal theme we could do something similar.
I also like endline seating that is steep. I think it provides great sight lines.
But if we can't get steep seating, bring on the terraces of old!

I also like the colors of the team in the stands.

This is sorta cool, the players enter the pitch from underground. Also note how the seats go right down on to the pitch. It's like the lawn chairs you use at a rec soccer game. Talk about fell like you're on the pitch!
And just for good measure, how 'bout a pro-road flare policy?

Okay another idea. I think it would be cool if they sold individualized bricks to be laid at the entrace. They did this at Petco Park in San Diego. For a fee, you can become part of RSL history forever.

Good point. Bring the seats right down on the pitch, or if some type of regulation doesn't allow that, at least as close as you can come.

With as nice as the Home Depot Center is, that "Green Monster" wall keeps fans way too high and far away.

Bring us in close like Arsenal's Highbury.

1. Bowl seating--no permanent stage like Frisco or Bridgeview-with reasonable proximity to field.

2. Center tunnel player entrance, like in Bridgeview.

3. Upper deck(s), and as much roof as is possible (expensive to do, but worth it if we can).

4. Allow for future expansion in the plan (a Sandy advantage).

5. Distinctive architecture--no antiseptic "sports concrete" appearance.

6. The stadium and the development near it should complement each other.

7. Accomodation for tailgating (would have been tough downtown).

8. Supporters Club(s) sections identified from the start.

9. No plastic horns or flares, but OK to just about anything else.

10. Must be able to get that Wasatch Range "money shot" for TV.

A stand for the chant leader to stand on 😉
I just want those seats close to the pitch. IN watching the EPL, I can't believe how close they are to the pitch. To see the ball coming in to the goal at eye level would be impressive. Can you imagine trumpetman's trumpet right next to the keeper.

If you could please have a place to put cowbells, trumpets, and any drums that would be nice as well.

Hell, I don't care what is there, I'm just happy we have a stadium. This is OUR stadium. The stadium for our lads where we can really enjoy the game! Man i'm excited.
