OK, OK, let me take a step back (Tarley should try that sometime) from my comments in this paragraph......i was having a bad day yesterday and I got carried away. Scholesy is right, a forward should always be looking to score first. But I still say that camping out with the last defender is not the way to get scoring chances. And since Tarley isn't scoring, his next priority is to distribute. But because he doesn't try to get separation, he's not doing that either.

Well, considering that our attack generally consists of ill-conceived vertical balls or passing to the opponent, what exactly is Tarley supposed to do besides play with his back to the goal and hope and pray the ball actually makes it within five feet of him?

Fabulous picture! It did make me cringe a little, but photography-wise, it's beautiful

OK, now that I can agree with other than there is way more to Tarley and his lack of goal scoring than we think. I mean, hello, he scores in his first game without a problem and looked dangerous for the entire time he was on the field. He looked like Tarley. Then what? He all of a sudden becomes a nervous, hesitant wreck overnight? I don't think so. He is a talented and good striker who has other things on his mind. Just my opinion, take what you like and leave the rest.

Maybe, instead of playing on instinct, he is thinking too much. Get over that and there is no telling what he can do.

I'm excited to see Tarley develop. I think his problems are that he has a harder time controlling the ball at times. I think he leads himself too much - and in the MLS against the quicker and more skilled defenders, you can't do that all the time. Additionally, I think he needs some more work on trapping the ball better when it comes to him. Too often he'll receive a fast ball and his "trap" actually sends the ball too far on a rebound from himself where it's easy to have picked off by an opposing player.
As I've read in other posts, though, he seems to get himself in some great spots, though. A problem we've seemed to struggle with this year with our regular starting forwards. If the guy can get the ball in the box, that's a GREAT start! If he can work on not leading himself quite as much, and not delaying his shot that half-second too long, I think he'll be able to finish alot more shots. Additionally, he's had the ability to seemingly get through tight defensive spots with the ball somehow glued to his leg. These latter reasons are why I'm excited to have him on our team and watch him develop. __________________

Tarley needs more balls played to him that allow him to run onto the ball and take advantage of his mind-boggling accelartion. Obviously this can't be only approach to his game. But he needs enough of it to help keep the defense on it's heels. He can tear a defense apart with them.
And I'd like to see Watson up top with them. Too bad Kries isn't around to float around behind them. __________________

Ok, if what "I Believe In Kreis" says is true about the RSL system (and I have no reason not to believe him...he seems to know his stuff), then why is RSL plugging in the wrong type of player in the system?
Another thing: If their system is based on the striker playing 'back to goal' and distributing to streaking midfielders, then shouldn't we have some midfielders who actually 'streak'? I haven't seen any plays like this all season. The way I would best describe the RSL attack is one winger getting the ball and running down the wing...then crossing toward one RSL guy who is surrounded by 3 defenders. No gap control by the midfield, no numbers in the attack, no nothing. I always wondered why opposing teams seemed to attack in numbers while RSL only attacked with one or two guys....which obviously won't work. If you have to play with the hand dealt, then I say you might as well play through balls to Tarley and let him run amok. It's not a very 'stylish' game, and there will be plenty of offsides calls against him, but it only has to work once or twice a game. And it does keep pressure on the defense. They have to be constantly aware and careful not to make a mistake. That is a good pic of Adu beating DJ. If you got it made into an 8X10 I wonder if DJ would sign it for you?? :dancing:
