Are you going to reconsider this option after last night? I like to see that we have Brian Hall as a ref, but I thought he had a bad game last night. He just seemed confused and inconsistent last night. I guess everyone has a bad day. Oh well, I will look forward to seeing him next season and maybe even send him a Christmas card as well.

The highlights of this game were:

-The Bratwursts at the Tailgate Lite. (Was that you, RSLFutbolfan?)

-"Build a bonfire, build a bonfire,

Put United on the top

Put the Rapids in the middle

And burn the bloody lot."

(To the tune of "My Darling Clementine")

Potatoland Paul brought us that one.

I'll talk about the game - here's what I noticed:

1. Why does this team insist on running the offense through Tarley? While his confidence may be shattered, it's not his biggest issue. The issue is he's a cherry picker. His game is standing next to the last defender and waiting for the ball. He doesn't backtrack. And when the ball does find him, he keeps it too close to his body so it gets poked away. Tarley won't be a competent MLS forward until he adds some dimensions to his game. The reason he scored so many goals against RSL during the open cup is because cherry picking works against us! For those who think he's an MLS-quality forward, let me ask you this: Name another MLS team that he would start for. Name one where he would even make the roster as a forward.

2. Is the Chris Brown fullback experiment ever going to end? I like Brown's gritty play, but the fact is he's too slow to play fullback. Since he's been playing fullback every opponent has gone right at him. DC was no exception - they were working his side all night. Take a look at DC goal #3 - Brown's man is Gomez. Gomez makes a run, slows down enough to do some jumping jacks to get Jamil Walker's attention, slots it home first time, and Brown still hasn't made it into the picture. Akwari and Dunseth were back - where was Brown? Sucking wind back at midfield.

3. That was a great dive by Jamie Watson to draw the PK. Too bad Tarley didn't get the call in the first half when it mattered and there really was a foul.

DC's first goal was scored off a free kick after a dive by a DC player.

All I can say is, the reffing sucked...as usual. DC was able to play thru it, and we weren't.

The dive wasn't just by ANY player, my friend, but a certain prepubescent mf/fw. MLS is like the NBA: We officiate to protect our stars. Everyone else, well, good luck with your surgery.

I couldn't tell who it was...I had my suspicions. I was at the other end of the stadium and couldn't see it. Saw the replay on the jumbo screen, but didn't see who it was.
I agree, some players get 'special' treatment.

How about moreno's punch to William's face. That was an awesome no call.

I liked the chant that followed. '2-game suspension. 2-game suspension!'

It will be interesting to see if anything comes of it.

Whats funny (read that as sad) is that on the Direct Kick broadcast (DC's), John Harkes was crying for most of the game how it was Williams that landed on Moreno's ankle and that Williams was faking the face hit.
Even more, thry were whining how, because Williams suckered Moreno, Jamie might not catch Twellman in goals... 😢

If the officiating sucked then we surely benefited from it. The penalty we were awarded was a weak call for sure....but we definitely had it coming for the missed call on Tarley in the first half.

Speaking of Tarley...what was he doing!? He had several good opportunities and didn't come close to making anything out of them. There was a corner kick that landed right on his foot in front of the goal, and he misplayed the ball which rolled right to the keeper. That one should have easily been in the back of the net.
As far as Tarley back-tracking: How much is your center striker supposed to back-track? His job is to put pressure on the defense and score goals. While he didn't score, he definitely put pressure on DC's defense. He had a bad game simply for lack of finishing, but he was dangerous. I like his quickness. The reason he scored so many goals against RSL in the Open Cup is because RSL is terrible defensively.....which showed again last night.

I thought Clint played hard last night...looked like he was auditioning for a spot on next season's roster. Or maybe he was auditioning for DC and would rather play elsewhere next year?? Either way, I liked his effort.

Other than that, the only player who I really noticed was the speedy guy playing on the left wing in the 2nd half. I liked what he was doing.

Man...how about Freddy's goal! Yeah, it was against RSL, but it awesome. :jawdrop:
