Bradley's son, who plays for the Metros, likely to be emotional about the coaching change...

The timing was perfect, for Lalas anyway. Remove Bradley with the team still in the playoff hunt and any subsequent outcome would look good. His comments afterward spoke of the team needing a spark, of the decision being his attempt to help push the team into the playoffs. Was the team really in dire straits? The Metros were on a five-match unbeaten streak, then they lose two straight to two of the league's best teams (New England and D.C. United), and suddenly a change needs to be made?

The move was a stroke of genius in that it created a no-lose situation for Lalas. If the team makes the playoffs, it will be thanks to the genius and guts of his difficult decision. If the team misses the playoffs, it will be because the team was doomed anyway. Either way, he no longer would have to worry about Bradley rallying the squad and reaching the playoffs for his eighth straight season as a coach.
