I'm actually not all that bothered by the lack of finishing in the second half. You take some chances with younger players, you sometimes get less-than-stellar finishing.

What irks me is that neither of Columbus' goals should have ever become scoring chances; lazy, sloppy play in the midfield kills us again. At least the kids grasp the concept of team defending, despite their finishing issues.

The second half restored my faith in RSL, because I was seriously about to chuck myself off the top row of the bleachers at halftime.

Cabrera

W :signrocko :dancing: ith out a doubt cabrera was the best mid season pickup by RSL .Can any one tell me what happened to Scarlett? did he play i thought the team brought him in to beat defenders to the back line and cross. Greagorio has also disappointed me. i think that the defense has looked a lot better in thre last couple of games. I also think that there are guys who gave up on the season about 5 games ago. Eddie and cabrera look great together.

Re: midseason pickups:

Some will disagree with me here, but I still say that Scarlett is not getting involved enough. His crossing is just awful. Yeah, he's getting crosses off and some see that as merely enough reason to be excited. But quite frankly these crosses are just blindly dumped in the box. While the case can be made that more RSL attacking players should be getting forward on the receiving end, he's got to be more tactically aware of where to place the crosses. Also, I'd like to see him show up more. Obviously he has the potential, I just want to see more from him. He does have wonderfully quick feet and I like to see him help out the defense. That's great. So he's going to be an impact player at some point, I just don't see much contribution so far.

Gregorio DNP last night. I think he's definitely been the least impact of the four. He needs to improve all around to be a consistent starting-11 player. Little in his game has seemed to be an upgrade from the other players we've had.

Tarley has shown potential but clearly missed a few sitters. He's young and I would bet feeling like a kid right now since he just moved up from a lower division. Give him time and he'll settle in. Man, he was doing a nice job of checking to the midfielders to receive the ball. Had he been playing with some other attackers looking to run off of him or had other midfielders played tight to him I think it would be a new dynamic to the attack. I don't know if he's going to be a pure goal scorer - I think he may be somewhat of a creative forward once he gets more confidence. That said, he's GOTTA bury those sitters.

Cabrera, aside from the woeful first 10 minutes of the game last night, has been rock solid. I'll have to presume that he wasn't warm yet - he comes from Guatemala afterall and this was the first chilly game that they had in Salt Lake since he arrived. He was good last night. He really made the Columbus forwards work to get open and he was all over the place covering for lost marks and making important tackles. He was winning all of the balls sent over the top be it with his head or his volleys. There were also a number of occasions in which he made a play that saved Countess from being executed by a hard shot. That play in the box, for example, where he took out Buddle and then Martino with well timed, clean tackles was truly class. I still want to see him link up better with the midfield but right now he's making the reads correctly and looking to play to feet which is better than what we've had out of the back all season. Further, is it me or did Pope/Cabrera/Broome/Countess look more oranized last night than any backline all season? It's good to see that finally. Buddle, Henderson, Martino and Cameron are a combination of size, speed and skill. Our defenders did ok handling them for the most part. This is a good sign and I credit Cabrera's work rate and compsure for that. If that is the case, then Oliva_25 , I agree with you.

Chris Henderson still has "it" on occasion. He got one of my votes for the Alltime team last week. Wasn't it just yesterday that he and Peter Vermes were running around Italy trying to receive a pass in '90?

Cameron Knox & Edson Buddle aren't killing the Eastern Conf. but you can see why they made Dante Washington available. And why most of his contributions have come in training.

Cutler marked Martino out of the game except for a moment in added time. Broome played well except for when he and Buddle didn't handle Henderson's cross.
One lapse and it's a goal.

Novak didn't look bad. And there was a Laser Luke sighting. Will Besagno make it back before the 12th? Paging Sergio Flores. Auditions are now open for the 2006 season.

I hope Wolff comes to SLC instead of going to Tulsa.

I don't know if this has received any play somewhere else on the forums but Ellinger went APE after we gave up the second goal. He got up off the bench and took out the table behind the team bench dumping the gatorade coolers all over. Who else saw this or was it just seen by those in section 37?

Wow, he isn't a big believer in showing emotion on the pitch. I wasn't at the game, was the second goal that bad?

Considering they gave up the second goal in extra time, yes it was that bad. Instead of going into the locker room down 1...

You can see the goal on mlsnet as it is one of the goal of the week nominees.

Whoa!!! I wonder what the half-time pep talk was! Whatever he said, it seemed to put some fire into the play of many of our players.
