very nice. thanks.

Any chance we take that Kljestan kid? I've seen him play (once) and was impressed. I guess Wynne would be hard to pass up on, although it could be interesting to have an actual attacking mid being developed.

Also saw Jacob Peterson (once) and was not so impressed. Although I guess he had beaten Jamie Watson out for the team, so I guess he must not be that bad. Are there actual mock drafts on that site? Is Peterson still going to be around after 21 picks?

Kljestan seems likely a high pick too. I am of the mindset that Wynne is the best overall player in the draft, and I think you should always draft the highest grade player you can (Besagno anyone?).
My guess is that Peterson will be gone way before #22. My guess is that Hoosier friendly teams like the Revs or Houston might get him before RSL does. Garey may still be around and I think he is a Kreis-like player. Some potential there.

Also, a midfielder that might be around by the #22 pick is McCarty from UNC. Watson teammate and very good player (I've actually seen him play alot with the Ajax PDL team).
No way Nguyen, Plotkin or Kljestan are around by #22. 🙁

One nice aspect of the Mathis/Cunningham trade is that we don't NEED to draft a top striker. drafting Wynne would go a long way towards helping our defense down the road...after all, we could use the help when Eddie goes to Germany and a rock solid central defender would be quite a boon. I doubt RSL thinks they will have a shot at him, because with the loss of Sequiera, Chivas is also in the market for a central defender.

With the loss of Cleetus at attacking mid, we don't really have anybody perfectly suited for that role...Kreis has the ball skill to play there, but his bread and butter has always been as a striker. I doubt that the early talk of playing him in that position has as much to do with his surgery as it does simply not having anybody else suited for the role. Given that, I would think that we would be looking to draft Sacha.

Should Chivas pass on Wynne, all bets are off. I say take Marvell, because I'd love nothing more than to have RSL notch a bunch of shutouts this season. But if Chivas doesn't take Wynne, and Columbus offered some good draft picks, it might be worth letting them trade up and take Sacha third.

Very true Heretic. I only mention the "forward-focus" draft for RSL because James Edward mentioned it in the Des News this week.

I personally think that we should focus on defenders and for the love of all thats holy, midfielders.

According to Buzz at the 3rd Degree website:

Oh, and Chivas will trade down, probably to #3 with Columbus.
Sigi will take his pal Wynne first.
RSL will take Sturgis second.
and then Chivas will take Arvizu.
You heard it here first.

Nate Sturgis is from Jacksonville, FL, plays at Clemson and played in the PDL for my local Orlando based Ajax team. Nate is a great defender, who pushes forward. If we can't get a defender like Wynne, Sturgis isn't that bad of a deal.

FYI- Politics played a big role with Peterson getting on the team. It had nothing to do with ability over Watson. So your initial impression of him was probably correct.

Ok, point made, so let me rephrase it.

Jamie was at every U20 camp before Sigi took over. Sigi came in a basically put together a team of mostly college kids and snubbed several MLS’ers. This has been discussed before on Big Soccer and there were questions about why Sigi preferred the college boys (especially from California schools) over the pro’s. Not once did Sigi call Jamie into camp. He didn’t give him a chance or even a look. Before that, under Rongen, Jamie was one of the top scorers on the team.

Draw your own conclusions.

Conclusions drawn. Thanks.

Sturgis is good, too. Not as impressive as Wynne, from what I've seen, but solid. Looks like it's undecided as to whether he'll end up playing center-back or outside in MLS (according to 3rd degree). It would sure be nice to draft someone who is starter caliber (this year).

,except that he played Adu, Gaven, and Freeman 90 minutes for all four games.
