Random Thoughts I

Random thoughts of no particular value to anyone other than the author.

1. Anyone else think that with the MLS press ignoring RSL's recent acquisitions and concentrating instead on those of . . . other teams, we might just sneak up on DC United on the 31st? Can't wait until Scarlett Fever hits RFK. I can hear it now: "Who ARE those guys?"

2. Still think RSL can win on the road if they wear the blue shorts. I know this is not a logical statement, but we've tried everything else. So go with the blue shorts and socks, start Scarlett, shock DC, and get this winning streak underway.

3. So RES attendance likely won't average over 20K this year. But 18K is well within reach, and that's not bad at all for a first year team with a record WELL under 0.500. Good job, Utah.

4. Don't write off the playoffs. Realisitically it's a very long shot now, but if we manage to hold serve with Colorado we have a chance going into the three CRapids matches. Lose or tie any of those and start planning for next year. But 27 points are still up for grabs and, folks, that's a lot of points.

5. Even you Landon Donovan hecklers have to admit his two goals against DC United were top class. That free kick could not have been any closer to the crossbar and still gone in free and clear.

6. Today was a first--I cheered for Metro. They saved it until late, but salvaged a tie against the new-and-improved Palencified cheetos. Cheetos are improved . . . but just not enough.

7. Watched the replay on GolTV of the Italian Supercup, Inter v. Juve. Can these guys play soccer or what? Had a thought, though. You know how the Italian champions wear a scudetto on their uniform and the Italian Cup Champs wear a circular badge? We ought to do that here too. The defending MLS Cup champs, Open Cup champs, and Supporters Shield holders ought to wear patches on their sleeves or something like that. Just a reminder all season long who the big boys are.

8. What are we supposed to do in the off season? What did we do before RSL?

If it's any consolation, what we can do on the off-season is not so bad: our off-season is the regular season in Europe so you can curl up on your couch, turn on GolTV and FSC to watch hours of EPL, la Liga, French Lique 1, etc. Not such a bad time, actually!

I am a sports news geek, so I fill some of that time with Sky Sports News on FSC.

Somebody else on another thread mentioned that they were going to throw streamers at the Jazz game during off-season.

The press does ignore everything RSL does, I even watched MLS wrap the day that Jason Kries scored his 100th goal and they didn't even show it, i guess it was because of lack of TV coverage. Landon Donovan is the man, the only time i dont cheer for him is when he is playing against Real Salt Lake. I usually watch the Utah Jazz, all the leagues over sea and the NFL (huge Jacksonville Jaguars fan).
