Galaxy vs. Real Madrid [R]

Didn't see a thread with results and gametalk so I'm starting one.

I didn't expect much from the Landonless Galaxy and RM were by far the better team (no surprise), but the Galaxy had their moments and didn't look completely out of place.

And after some initial lethargy, RM were giving it a go. Interestingly, LA looked to be at or better in fitness (OK, they're midseason and RM are in preseason) and there was not an appreciable speed difference overall.

The big difference was simply in the quality of play--ball skill, creativity, power, tactical understanding. Again, no surprise, except that once they got over the fact that they were playing Real Madrid, the Galaxy players actually made a game of it. The 2-0 final was a fair result for both teams.

There are quite a few articles about the game out there, but I thought these were the most interesting from a big picture perspective. The second LAT article is particularly interesting from the standpoint of where these exhibitions are supposed to take the league:

Real Madrid's Visit Might Set Stage For Others

Whittier Daily News:

100 % soccer: Both sides make net gains from exhibition

L.A. is Real's world, too

Loyal1 or KC should check out Marco or El Pais or something like that & see what they thought about this in the Madre Patria.

This has got me thinking.
When is Hannover 96 going to come a have a friendly with RSL?

Don't season ticket holders have another "bonus" game on their ticket plan?

"la mejor versión de Zinedine Zidane"... (I like it...)

"Zidane se reencuentra con su mejor fútbol. Sus gestos técnicos encontraron el premio deseado por Luxemburgo y, de sus botas, salió el pase que rompía el partido tras el gol de Owen. Un duro castigo para el voluntarioso juego norteamericano."

We should have 3 bonus games remaining. We now know that we won't have US Open Cup matches in Salt Lake, and having more than one home playoff appears to be very unlikely at this point (would pretty much need to finish at least 3rd to have any chance at all at a second home playoff match), I hope we'll soon hear of upcoming 'friendlies'.

It was fun to watch RM play - they are very very good! But I thought L.A. without Landycakes still did well. One thing I was very disappointed with though was the crowd. First, where the hell were all the Galaxy fans?? I would have thought the crowd would at least be half for the home town team. Secondly, the RM fans were clearly a bunch of bandwagoners. RSL, LA, DC, and CHI fans are routinely WAY louder, more into the game, and just better than those fans were last night. From what I could tell on the FSC broadcast anyway.

The Riot Squad board says that the Riot Squad & the Galaxians were not allowed to sit/stand in their own section.

The ticket prices were, as you can imagine, jacked up for this game; and Real Madrid fans were in the usual Galaxy supporters' sections.

Not that the Riot Squad is the best source of information like this. But supposedly, Real Madrid personnel said that Kevin Hartman and Herc Gomez should be in Europe.

Imagine, going from taunting Blitzz fans as a San Diego Gaucho to Europe......

I'm not sure what newspaper, but one of them from Spain also praised Nagamura. If you don't count the fact that he can't hid the broad side of a barn with his shot, he had a quality game. Maybe he's been hanging out with "watch-me-miss-again" El Pando Ramirez too long.

this one is interesting, it basically says that Real Madrid brought the game, the class, the goals and that Galaxy played good for about 5 minutes MAX.

Easy game for the Madrid and their new "big deal" Soldado, whose game surprised everyone!
Although Galaxy had 2 clear chances, it was nothing the keeper couldn't stop. uhm.... basically it says that the game was like a walk in the park for the divas, sorry...Real Madrid...

Interesting fact... they had a full house with 30.000 ppl! Galaxy will never see their stadium this full ever again, unless they play against other big team 😛
