Tour de France (R)

Salt Lake City's Dave Zabriskie in Yellow

And former SLC resident Levi Leipheimer is in 14th.

How will Jan Ullrich respond to being passed by The Lance?

Like my Role Model Flounder from Animal House would say, "It's gonna be great!"

THat is cool stuff. It is too bad he rode so early, nobody caught his ride on camera.

I still say Lance let him take yellow, but what a thrill none the less.

What's completely amazing about this is that he beat Lemond's time trial record, which has stood since 1989. 54.676 kph--that's about 34 mph--over almost 12 miles. Kinda sad to see Lemond's record fall--before the Lance Era, that was my favorite Tour victory, Lemond winning by eight seconds after riding the fastest time trial in tour history. Until yesterday. How great is it that Dave Zabriskie beat him, though? There's a good chance if CSC can fend off Lance's Discovery team in the team time trial on Tuesday that Dave could hang on to the yellow jersey until the mountains.

I certainly never thought I'd see a Utahn in yellow. Especially after I stopped riding. :whistling

You know Lance will want to bury Basso if he can before the mts., so Zabriskie's time in yellow will end on Tuesday.

It'll be interesting to see if CSC has as good a time trial team as The Team Formerly Known As The Blue Train. (What are they now? The Silver Bullet? The Silver Streak?) It could turn out to be a pretty tough fight. I get the feeling this is going to be a pretty strange Tour. And how cool would it be if the Lance-killer turned out to be Zabriskie? I've always thought that it would be poetic justice of some sort if Lance's replacement was one of his former lieutenants--although Dave's more like a former sergeant. I always hoped it would be Tyler, though. Poor Tyler. :punk:

I'm thinking that Landis or Leipheimer would be more likely for that role. Maybe even Heras can do it. CSC has built a strong team, and I don't really see a huge gap, especially with the new rules that limit the advantage gained in the team trial.

Seeing Lance in a green jersey was weird.

It's like he was saying to the sprinters, "If I cared about your silly-a** p**sing contests, I'd beat you in the sprints, too. But you are beneath my dignity."

How is Super Dave Z in the mountains? You'd figure that a guy who went to Olympus High could climb a hill, but he's supposedly a Time Trial specialist?

I have riden with Dave Z before... he kicked my butt up the mountain. However, when it comes to the world stage his avergage to slightly above average in the mountains... Although I would imagine in the two years since I have riden with him he could have worked on that a bit. I did notice that his cadence is a lot higher than it used to be and that lends its self to doing reasonably well in the mountains.

His biggest asset going into the mountains is his light frame at 6 foot 145 lbs... as a time trial specialist that actually beat The Lance... it would indicate that he is getting a high wattage output. That bodes well for the mountains... plus it can't hurt that his personal trainer is Amrstrongs personal trainers (Carmichael sp?) right hand man.

I guess to summarize my gibberish. Historically he hasn't been great, but also hasn't done poorly in the mountains. However, he has the ideal frame for a climber and his performance this season seems to indicate that he is in good form to climb well. But, the question will be does CSC belive in him enough to push for him do well in the overall standings?

Glad to see there are some other cycling fans on our board.

Tomorrow's TTT should prove to be very interesting. I'd like to see Lance go out in a blaze of glory, but if anyone were to beat him, I would like to see our local hero Dave be the one be take him down.
