A Utah lawmaker is exploring a plan to legalize beer sales at the University of Utah's Rice-Eccles Stadium as part of a proposal to make the 45,600-seat facility an extended, if not permanent, home for Real Salt Lake.

...oh no...

Does he really think this all about beer?

We can't be bought off with beer!

I don't even drink beer! :dumbass:

OK that is fair but beer sales is not the only issue...
it is the additional 20,000 seats that tend to absorb(ie KILL) the atmosphere.
The permanent pointy ball lines and countless other things...

When we get our own stadium the enhanced atmosphere will be immediately evident. So I say NO BEER if it means we don't get our own stadium....

The article also says that RES/Unv. of U would renegotiate with RSL so that RSL will get more revenue (which U of U gets 90% of now), Utah would also add grass and change the lower seating to allow a better soccer pitch.

Scariest thing is that the paper seems to indicate this is a popular alternative.

Interesting that they didn't ask MLS what they think of it.

No, they do not.
In fact the article makes it clear that even though soccer could have adult beverages, the college football games would remain dry.

No. They don't.
So, are they just going to hide the beer in the storage room during pointyball games come September?

A few points:

-- Our state legislature is NEVER going to allow it.

-- As long as the percentage of concession profits for the "U" is 90% (as stated in the article) beer profits for RSL would be minimal anyway.

-- There are many other reasons besides beer that we want another home.

You're probably right, Rabble2.

But who would have ever thought that, for 2 weeks, you could buy booze at City Hall and that walking around in downtown SLC with an open container of alcohol was, in effect, legal?

The key words in that article are "R-Draper". If a Republican from Alpine Lite is in favor of suds at Rice Eccles, then I would never say never.

The Cedar Hills voting results were a pleasant surprise to me so I guess anything is a possiblity.
