Do you think that MLS will look kindly upon the fact that there polls are not "cheat-proof"?
Do you want to be labelled 'a bunch of cheats'?

How embarrassing will it be to the Loyalists if an article shows up in the paper tomorrow saying that the Loyalists cheated in online poll?

can we delete this thread without too much aggrevation or accusations of censorship?

I think that hiding that we cheated would be crossing an ethical line that we may not want to cross. Especially if we are going to take this one step further and contact the media about the results of the poll we cheated in. The time for worrying about being labelled a bunch of cheats was when the proposals to cheat were made in the first place.

Whos hiding it? If the media wants to know, if MLSnet wants to know, all they have to do is ask or just come to these forums.

I don't understand why some of you feel bad about this. Its just a internet poll. If MLSnet was worried about stuffed polls, they would have NOT written up an article about it. Do we really think MLSnet is stupid enough to think no one stuffed their poll?
Come on.

Deuce proposed closing the thread, that is what I was responding to.

Otherwise people have been very open about stuffing the poll (cheating is not the right word, I apologize for continuing the usage of it).

First off the idea to contact the media is why I mentioned deleting the thread in the first place.
second no one solicited the cheat it was mentioned after the fact...

Soccerprime... you don't see anything wrong with announcing to the world that the poll was stuffed..? effectively calling everyone cheats...

Actually I proposed deleting the thread.
Closing it means it is still readable...

Anyway I just made a suggestion cos I think this is going to be very embarrassing if it gets out to the press... ethical or not there is no productive reason for inviting embarrassment.

Based on the article they wrote, I do.

I think the stand-up thing to do would be NOT inform media outlets of the nice article they wrote about our fan support, and to inform MLS that their poll was stuffed, and to tighten their polls in the future to keep this from happening.

Furthermore, I'm not necessarily against stuffing polls, but when they lead to nifty articles about the results of the polls, it becomes more complicated than being satisfied at seeing your team or point of view represented as the most popular option.

Do I think RSL has the best fans in the MLS? YES!! My opinion is a bit biased, but I've also heard from other sources, besides my ego, that we have some excellent fans. Do I think that we have had the best fans in all of MLS history? I'm not sure about that because I haven't followed MLS until now. However, if MLS didn't think RSL was a viable option for this "historical" poll, then they wouldn't/shouldn't have included RSL as one of the selections.

I only knew about the poll because of a thread entitled "A New Poll to Stuff" http://realsaltlake.org/forums/showthread.php?t=1467

That was clearly a solicitation to stuff the poll, but Neil's awesome Hacker Hooliganism is what got us the win.

I think SoccerPrime is dead on...it really isn't cheating.

Sorry about typing "closing" I knew you meant "deleting".

I say if the media knows we got it the way we did, so what? If anything it makes us look like dedicated fans which was the purpose of stuffing the poll anyways.

Wow, I actually am very admirious of Neil, and agree completely with Ethan here. Anyone want to comment on what that portends for the universe?

Yes "a new poll to stuff" was the thread and what I got from that is go over and vote...

It was very cool but now it can be a cause for great embarrassment...

I just made the suggestion... and solicited input... only 3 people responded so I suppose that it will stay...

but let it be known that I suggested it be deleted before it became an embarrassment.
If it doesn't than I was just stresssing over nothing... which is cool too.
