How To Embarrass Yourself With RSL : Three Easy Steps 1. S-P-I-T U-P
My sister encouraged me to get a picture of the four-month-old twins with the players, so I approached and asked if it was okay. They were very nice about it and Jamie and Seth each held one of the twins. They were so cute with them! Jamie said, “I have to have a copy of this picture!” and Scholesy also said he’d like a copy. We snapped a couple pics with the digital camera, but then Deuce walked in a few minutes later and people had been commenting on how cute it was to see the players holding babies. So we decided to have Deuce take a couple more pics. As I was about to hand off little Elijah, I noticed that he had a little spit up drooled right down by his tummy and I hoped the players wouldn’t notice and freak out, thinking it was a leaky diaper or something. (NOBODY likes to hold a baby with a leaky diaper... duh.) This time Jamie held one and Nelson Akwari got the spitty-up one, Eli. Things went fine and if Nelson was freaked out by the baby, he at least was polite enough not to mention it. Still being a little embarrassed, I commented in passing, “He kind of spits up a lot.” Little baby Eli thought that was a request apparently, because he chose that moment (thankfully out of reach of the players) to demonstrate. Spit up went flying out and onto the floor, covering my baby of course. I think Jamie and Seth laughed and made “appreciative” noises. (Think “ewww.”) I chose this moment to take off as quickly as possible in search of something to clean it up with before somebody slipped and died from the spit up. My last comment to the players, “At least you won't forget me.” I'll always be the girl with the kid that spit up all over Cars-Mart. So much for being cool. Yea?

That is awesome. Do bad you split, you missed Andy Williams and his little girl.

Great story Julia. You've got to love baby spit up. I'm going to have to get used to it all over again. I have a story about our oldest. His grandpa had him and was laying down with him on top of his stomach. Grandpa was giving him kissed when our oldest decided to spit up in Grandpa's mouth. Now Grandpa knows how Ozzy feels. 🙂

Open Mouth. Insert Foot. I'm just getting started.. this one's way worse:
2. Man of the… Never Mind. This is definitely one of my worst moments. I walked over to Jamie and said, “Hey Jamie, did you get my emails about you being Man of the Match?” He said, “Yeah, didn’t you get my reply?” As we’re talking about why I never got his return email and he’s apologizing (oh like I’m gonna be soooo mad at him for not replying to my email…) I look over and see the other players. The seating is like this: Ellinger, Watson, Trembley, Akwari, Countess. So then I turned to Seth and started to say, “Yeah you’ve been voted Man of the Match by the Loyalists twice, too.” But I got about halfway through the sentence when I look a little farther down the line and see Akwari sitting there. This is the point at which I wonder if I can shut up and turn the hands of the clock back about 10 seconds. However, the sentence was out so I tried to cover it by sounding really unsure of the other MOTMs. “Yeah, I think DJ was like the first game or something and....” I was hoping that Akwari wasn’t listening and putting two and two together when Seth helps me out. Grinning, he stretches his arms up and then drops his arm around Nelson’s shoulder. “So we have three Men of the Match sitting here,” he says pointedly, nudging Akwari. Hi, can I disappear now? I have this sinking feeling that Akwari doesn’t really like me much! Hrmmm…

3. Stop talking while you're behind.
Okay, so then I was telling Jamie how excited we all were to have him in the game and I turned to Coach Ellinger, who was sitting there listening. I said, “Yeah, some of the Loyalists even joked about putting together a petition to let Jamie start.” Coach E has a very expressive face. He kind of lifted one eyebrow, turned his head toward Jamie and just looked at him amused. Jamie looked kind of embarrassed and I started to wonder if that was perhaps not the most kosher thing to say. (Maybe not too kosher with Seth Trembly sitting right there, too….) Like I’ve said before, I have a talent for saying the wrong thing. I don’t think this was really bad, but Jamie did look kind of embarrassed by it.

Okay, I'm done. *taking a bow*
At least they'll remember the crazy lady! I'll post my other observations in the other thread.

Great little stories. Don’t worry, you get used to being embarrassed the more you hang around them 😉
