The 4th article said something I found interesting:

"The rebound caromed right back into the goalmouth to Washington, who won a header over Hartman's challenge only for left back Todd Dunivant to boot the ball off the line. Ellinger mentioned that it looked like the ball might have gone over the goalline after seeing the videotape afterward.

Dunivant insisted he was telling the truth when he said: 'No, it wasn't over. It was close. It was right on it, but it defintely didn't go over.'"

I wondered if that ball didn't actually go over the line. It sure looked close to me. Apparently, I'm not the only one.

I agree, but the ref in me will remind everyone that in soccer, "over the line" means the entire ball over the entire line. It was close, but I don't think it meets the requirements.

The Loyalist in me wants to chant:

I'm blind, I'm deaf
I want to be a ref

From the Ogden SE:

http://www.standard.net/standard/sports/53224/

"With three more goals in the south goal at Rice Eccles-Stadium last week in a friendly with Universidad Catolica, RSL has now scored 10 goals on that end in competition, and zero in the north goal."

Would someone please remove the saran wrap from the north goal?

You might not have to guess much longer:

Roy Carroll doesn't want to see microchips in the ball. 🙄

Hmm, I don't know how I feel about that. I like that it will make it easier to judge a goal, obviously. But I've always had this mentality that soccer is one of the few sports that hasn't changed much over time because of its beautiful simplicity. And adding technology like this completely goes against that idea. Oh well.

Well, a lot of tennis tournaments use the computerized technologies to tell if a serve is a let or a fault, and that hasn't gotten out of hand.

So it might not be too bad. We'll have to see, I guess.

Micro chips and sensors aren't that big of a deal. It isn't any worse than the electronic line judge in tennis.
