Why did they move the team benches?

My colleague and I specifically bought our season tickets behind the visitor's bench because we wanted to be behind Costa Rica when they played in the WCQ. My friend, having served a mission in Costa Rica, was looking forward to this. He was informed that the U.S. Soccer Association wanted the benches on the other side. He was told that he could be accommodated on the other side but he would be about 20 rows up. That kind of defeats the purpose, we were hoping to be where we are, 2 rows up, behind the oposing team's bench. Does anyone know why the U.S. Soccer Association wanted the benches moved? The only two things I can think of are either they don't want the 5:30 sun in the players' eyes, or they were observing when RSL was playing Chivas and didn't appreciate the fans heckling Chivas' players.

If anyone knows the reasoning behind this decision, please let me know.

I would think they wouldn't mind the other team getting heckled. They keep moving the games around trying to find a home advantage. Besides, they have the shelter over the benches to prevent stuff from being thrown onto their heads as they sit there.

The reason the benches were moved is a guy named Bruce... he coaches some sort of All-Star team... I think that team he coaches will be playing Coasta Rica next week. 😉

From what I understand Coach Bruce asked via the USSF to have the beches on the shady side of the field. So, RSL was forced to move them to host the WCQ next Saturday.

Well if The Bruce wants it, I suppose it is fine.

We figured as much. I wonder if they're going to move them back after the WCQ match.

I hope so. I hate having the touch line so close to the stands on our side of the pitch.

Yes that's true, it's hard to see down the field. But it does make our corner that much more intimidating to opposing players taking corner kicks. Despite being ahead, those Fire players wanted to get out of that corner as fast as they could the other night.

Hmmm. So they moved the benches so the coaches could sit in relative comfort of the shade (while the players are running around in the sun)?

🙄

Yes, yes they did.

In all seriousness, is there a rule against yelling (or plasting the trumpet) at the opposing player as he's setting up for the corner? I would hate for our team to get in trouble for something that we were doing.
