I don't see why we can't make it there, we have over a year to plan and maybe we can get some kind of discount or something. There is bound to be some kind of way we can go as a group.

Some kind of package...

I never even thought about actually going there but, seriously... why not?
Besides the obvious money and family issues, these can all be addressed with proper prior planning! there has got to be a way to do it, since we have enough time to plan it...

Just tried to get a quote on a flight to Berlin from Salt Lake City, during the World Cup month of June 2006... Apparently the system or whatever limitations are imposed for whatever reasons limit the online booking to 330 days in advance. This was the case in all of the online booking sites I tried.

Any one know why you can't book more than 330 days in advance?

I am sure we can find some kind of "Group Rate" to get over there and get some hotels and such.

Who is with me on this?

I'm absolutely down if we can pull it off. We just have to plan, and like you said, we have time.

Maybe Victoria Street will play host to our qualifier against Trinidad or Panama?

If we can't make it to Germany, maybe we can make it to Carson.

With the dollar diving like Carlos Ruiz against the Euro, the beer will be cheaper at Victoria Street anyway.

If you guys are serious about planning on going, try this website:
http://sports.groups.yahoo.com/group/YanksinGermany/
Its a pretty lively group that is planning on going to Germany for WC 2006.
I tried planning this, but with a 2 (will be 4 in 2006) and bun in the oven now, don't see how I could even think about it.
Hopefully, I'll be able to at least watch it in Glenn or Scott's basement. 🙂

Ditto. Great idea, but having three children along would sort of ruin it for me! We'll depend on lots of great viewing parties somewhere where toddlers can run wild in the next room over, or at least the babysitting favors will be measured in hours, not weeks!

Thanks for that link... Last night I was begining to lose momentum in the search to get planning info for a trip to Germany for WC '06.

This group looks promising, this group was a rallying point for Yanks going to Korea in 2002 as well so they have done this before and I am thinking that we can benefit from their experiences. I have applied to join and hopefully I will be posting good news, helpful tips and any deals I find out about on here! 🙂

I've been a member of YanksInGermany for about a year and a half. My wife and some of her brothers have lived in Germany in the past and speak good German, hence I thought I could make good on that to go in 2006. But we in the "family creation stage" in life currently, when the family increases in size and the budget grows only so fast.
But in my brief time of actually thinking I could go, YanksInGermany became and still a great resource.
