I agree. Let's do what we can to stop those around us, but let's not sacrafice our enjoyment for something someone else "might" decide to do. I think between us and security, it will get stopped quickly.

Not sure anyone was really stressing out about it but I agree 100%. What anyone else does isn't and shouldn't have one bit of influence on my enjoyment and support of the team. If the FO decides no more streamers I'll throw no more streamers...Until then stream on!

Getting back to the thread topic - NICE PICS!

So here are my thoughts
We all go to the match for our enjoyment of the beautiful game and to support our team. So I think we should not stress on how all the dorks and said offspring of dorks might interpret our throwing of streamers whether it be in the stands or on the pitch!!!

If we all police the areas in our immediate vicinity and report to security, you know... the people that are actually paid to stress about what we are currently all stressing about! Tell security if we see anything!

We all know it is not coming from the Loyalist section... and I believe that the FO knows that as well...

So let us all take a deep breath and remember that we are there to see RSL kick some proverbial backside not to fret over how a few dorks might interpret our goal celebrations....

Throw the bloody streamers and report anyone throwing anything else....

simple really... when ya think about it!
Amen. Well said

When I took that picture of the streamers and decided to put it up in the forum I figured that it might generate a discussion about throwing streamers but I didn't realize that it would be as big a deal as it is. Let me tell all of you a story about something we did when I went to Timpview High School way back in the day:

We had always had a hard time beating Provo High (our arch rival) at basketball. In 1986-87 things changed, Timpview actually fielded a state championship caliber basketball team featuring the likes of Brendon Dayton, Kurt Baily, and Matt Bowman. Provo High's star player was Brian Santiago (yes, theee Brian Santiago). But I digress, this thread is about streamers and that's where I'm going with this post.

It was the day of the big game. Provo would be playing us at our house. We knew our team was good, we knew we were capable of beating Provo for a change. I was approached in chemistry class by one of our female student body officers (yes, she was hot) about whether I would be attending that night's game. My answer was in the affirmative. She told me that they wanted everyone to bring a roll of toilet paper to the game and to throw it onto the court when Timpview scored its first basket.

I went home that night and snuck a roll of toilet paper into my pocket. I arrived at the game not knowing if this would be a joke on me or if my fellow students would be throwing toilet paper too. But I trusted Jennifer, I didn't think she would play a cruel joke on me. But boy it would be embarrassing to be the only one throwing a roll of toilet paper onto the court.

Well, I guess the administration got wind of the plan because I noticed that rolls of toilet paper were being confiscated by the Vice-Pricipal and his gang of gestapo officers. I carefully hid my roll under my jacket so as not to tip them off.

Tip off happened and Timpview got possession of the ball. Matt Bowman hit a 20 foot jump shot for the score. All of a sudden it was raining toilet paper onto the court. Toilet paper flying from everywhere. It was awesome. Nobody was hurt, the fans really got charged up. After this happened the Provo fans started chanting, "Kick them out, kick them out!" This got us fired up and I think it got our team fired up too. We went on to win the game. I don't remember what the final score was, but I remember that it was close.

My point in telling this is that if enough people throw streamers, what's security going to do? We have to plan it out though, if we say we're going to throw streamers then everyone's got to do it, not just the Loyalists.

My other point in telling this is; this thread was about pictures I took at the Chivas game not about streamers. LOL :D

Yep, Larson was pricipal, Bolander and Merrill were vice-principals. As far as I know, Boby Kau still teaches there. In fact, I think I read a newspaper article about some sport he coaches at Timpview. I can't remember which one it was. He was the head football coach for the 88-89 season but the team went the whole season without scoring a single point. The next year, they brought in Chad VanOrden and he's been the head football coach since. Sadly, I did not follow soccer at Timpview. I didn't get into soccer until I went to Brazil for the LDS church. Just an FYI, but did you know that Bobby Kau taught the missionary discussions to Elvis Presley when Elvis was filming "Blue Hawaii"?

Instead of kicking us all out, couldn't RES officials just kick the team out of RES, citing the fact that our fans are too rowdy? Or perhaps they could end up fining the team. I'm assuming we'd rather not have either scenario pan out.

That's why BYU doesn't host High School sporting events any longer. Someone threw some eggs onto the basketball court during a High School playoff game that BYU was hosting.

Has anyone bothered to ask someone in an official capacity at the University of Utah/RES if streamers would be okay?

Now I've got myself off the original topic of this thread too.
