I haven't had sound on any of the times I've seen the commercial. But, from what I can gather a pro player (USL?) joined the LDS Church and it has negatively affected his career in some way.

That's what I gathered anyways.

I think we have lurkers who need material for their papers... or not. Maybe it was a tidy coincidence? :D

I just heard the commercial.

It must be the Southern California Seahorses, Charlotte Eagles or some other church-based team.

From the images I saw I would guess the Charlotte Eagles.

Did anyone else make a point of watching Get Gephardt last night?

I thought it was kind of stupid... they made it sound like the guy got booted off the team in the promos, but his visa got denied before he even got a tryout or anything. It was cool to see Steve Pastorino, though.

Yeah, I saw it. Same impression too. I think Steve was a super good sport about participating.

We have better weather! We have better weather!

(That's what I yelled at Charlotte Eagles' fans, at the 2000 USL D3 Semifinal; played in a hurricane. The scoreboard was not the Blitzz's friend that day.)

He got Gephardt

Here's the story about the guy who was not allowed to try out by the Charlotte Eagles.

Pastorino thinks that we could see him on RSL one day; if he can pick up some experience in the USL first.

I posted a link over on the "Off Topic" section.

Maybe a moderator could move it, or merge it or something?

Hey Eagles: Matthew 6:5-6! It's not just a good idea, it's The Law.

So I guess they can pull this off because of their not-for-profit status?

Seems like an unfortunate lack of initial communication between the team and the player. Somehow the "requirements" for play weren't explained or asked about up front?
