Liverpool vs. Chelsea [R]

Well, the steamroller that is Chelsea was finally stopped in its tracks and impeded from winning a treble this season. Personally, I was hoping for a Chelsea/AC Milan Champion’s League Final. Chelsea missed out on the final by (literally) centimeters in the final seconds.

woooooooooooooooooooohoooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!

I don't have much love for the Thieving Scousers (ever since *that* FA Cup final and Handball Henchoz) but I far prefer them to Chelski.

Such a dilemma for an Everton supporter. It shouldn't be, but it's impossible for me to support Chelsea. Ironic, since they were the first team I supported as a kid in England.

Oh well.

Forza Milan!

You'll never walk alone

I love to say I told you so, but I did. Liverpool deserve it, they beat some great teams to get to the final, AC Milan next! The next dilema ... what happens when they win ... do they get to defend it next year or do Everton keep the 4th spot in the Champions league? As a Liverpool fan you'd think I'd say kick Everton out, yeah, you're right - I do.

Although I must say the smart thing would be to just include a fifth EPL team, it would be horribly unfair on both of Liverpool when they win and also on Everton since all season they have deserved it. UEFA is really passing the buck on it.

What a great game... I look forward to the day when our stadium (be it in Salt Lake or Murray) is done and we have the entire stadium singing something more complicated than Ole.

It was nice to see a game, instead of read about it. I have no cable/dish so my soccer games have been far between since I got married in December.

Scholesy: According to articles I’ve read, UEFA has parted with tradition and will let Liverpool return the following season. However, all of this talk is premature…

Looks like UEFA has done an about-face:

UEFA set to deny Liverpool
http://soccernet.espn.go.com/headlinenews?id=332563&cc=5901

That would be bizarre not to have the defending champion return (assuming of course….!)

As an Everton supporter of course I think it would be unfair to change the rules on CL places at this point. I don't deny that Liverpool would be deserving if they win in Istanbul, but that's not how the rules were set up and Everton shouldn't be penalized. Questions about whether or not Everton is worthy of a CL spot next year are ridiculous--if they finish in the top four, they're worthy.

Even so, there's no guarantee that Everton will pick up the four points they need. I hope so, and I think so, but we've got Newcastle at home and then Arsenal and Bolton on the road. That's no easy task. Liverpool has a big goal differential advantage, and although they still have Arsenal and Aston Villa remaining you have to figure they can pull at least three points out of those two games.

So Everton has to think a minimum of four points. If they can't . . . well, I don't want to think about that.

Everton's in, Liverpool's out
