Oh my!

From the 'Big Numbers' article in the Des this morning:

"Real's next home game on May 14 against Landon Donovan and the Los Angeles Galaxy. The team has already sold over 10,000 tickets for that game..."

We're two weeks out and already 10,000 tickets sold! This is unreal.

""It's all about peaking in this league," Countess said. "If we can hang in there, and pick up a playoff spot, who knows what will happen."

A single table with relegation and promotion would make this attitude obsolete and irrelevant.

Every game would be crucial. It would no longer be a matter of "making the playoffs."

You're speaking to the choir, my friend. The problem with relegation is that my impression is the USL is getting weaker financially. This would make the MLS owners not very excited to get relegated to financially weak league.

Of course, this is only my impression. The USL may be doing great. I believe some of you here follow the leagues closely, what are your thoughts?

Does anyone actually believe that an MLS owner would actually approve something that may see his team go down to a lower division? I don't think that it will ever happen. Dave didn't invest $10 million plus to end up in the USL (not that it would ever happen to our team of course 🙂). It would be nice, but I just can't see it ever happening.

It wouldn't be the USL. It would have to be completely restructured to provide second and third leagues separately, hence a USL demise.

Montgjules: think USL first division, second division and PDL…

Pro/Rel = Something cool to be excited about, but don't get your hopes up for another 20 years or so.

Once every team has an investor, a place to play, a good fan base, and the single-entity is done away with (including no salary caps, or league-wide drafts, etc.), THEN we can start talking about relegation.

We would all love to see promotion and relegation, but I don't know if it will ever happen. How long did it take that system to develop in the rest of the world?

Montgjules is right, if MLS did have Promo/Rel then USL would die.
