Why isn't the DesNews covering RSL in Dallas?

Is this guy really a representative of the Deseret News? I would have expected a more professional response to Prime's e-mail.

Funny how he says they'll devote more coverage if RSL is doing (?) playoff caliber soccer and drawing 20,000. Uh, did he see the game on Saturday?

So they want a consistent winner with consistently high attendance. OK, that's understandable. But the line about more coverage for the U? As if they cut back on their BYU coverage due to the abysnal performance of Cougar football and basketball.

Look, what he's saying is that soccer doesn't rate because it's still unproven in their eyes. Fine, that's their approach.

So let the market decide. If the Trib is covering RSL fully, and the DesNews is not, then I suggest support for the Trib.

Sooner or later, the DesNews will figure out they've missed the bandwagon.

The Deseret News Sports Editor's Drinking Game:

Drink once for every time you can someone a "liar". It's much more fun when you can insult the plebs who subscribe to your paper by using first-grade terminology.

Drink twice for every time you passively-aggressively insult soccer fans. Apparently, they're all Cro-Magnons who don't understand your subtle attempts at subversion.

Drink three times for every time you point out how SUPER the Deseret News is at covering a sport or team which has absolutely no relevancy to the original e-mail.

Do a body shot when you take a tip from your fourteen-year-old: the part where you try to unravel the Mystery of The Great Lying Soccer Fan Who Lies About Your Paper To Other Lying Soccer Fans by asking the stupid soccer fans who told them the Big Fat Lie in the first place. Like, totally, you know, like, who like told you that, because I'm like going to like pour diet Coke like all over them in the like cafeteria, you know.

🙄

I received a very similar response from Mr. Shneider. I'm baffled that he's taking the name calling route. I have stopped my subscription to the Des for a subscription to the Trib, and I let him know this. Rather than telling me that the Des was going to cover the team he tells me "maybe you and the Tribune are a better fit."

Early in the letter he stated, " If you were still a subscriber, I'd fill you in on the truth of our considerations for RSL road-game coverage over the course of the season. But, no point in wasting the effort now."

There's cusomter service for you! If you loose a customer be sure to make them feel stupid as they walk out of your store so that they'll never come back again. Smart.

Dinosaurs.

I received the exact same response as Prime except it was addressed to me. He should've just addressed it "Dear Soccer Dorks,".

I'd send your correspondence on to the editor-in-chief, and maybe a copy to Paul Rolly over at the Trib to see if you can get him to print it and embarrass them even more. :D

That is exactly what I was going to suggest. Well, except for the Trib part, which makes you more evil than I am. I guess that comes along with being a reclusive monster hanging out in a lake. 😉

Hey, just because I'm a recluse who enjoys scaring people doesn't mean I'm...

Oh. 😲

You guys have the wrong idea bout Schneider. The Editorial board jacks him around on budget. For example, back in the stone age when the Jazz made the playoffs, they wouldn't ever budget the resources to cover them past the first round.

I know the guy, because his son is in my geography class. He has a dry wit and I can see him using lol in emails, he probably learned it from his teenage son. I believe the stereotype he was talking about was how many of us automatically view the mainstream media meatheads as soccer haters, ok many of them actually are. He is probably trying to save money with a freelance guy in Dallas because the editorial board didn't give him close to enough money to adequately cover the team. I have had conversation with his son about this issue.

Would you like me to try and get him to a meeting to explain how he plans to cover the team.

We can't afford to act like Neanderthals on this one.
