MLS Second Week Attendance

Here are the numbers from Saturday:

sc @ SJ 11,519

Crew @ Revs 9,727

Fire @ DC 19,052

FCD @ CR 9,253

RSL @ LA 27,000

Not good, overall, since these were all home openers except San Jose. A few issues:

1. The Galaxy and DC continue to draw well. Nothing brings in the fans like success (and a really nice stadium doesn't hurt in LA).

2. The Rapids are bleeding fans.

3. The cheetos effect has been negligible so far, home or away. Where are all those sold out stadiums we were promised?

4. RSL has a great opportunity to make a strong statement about fan support in Utah with our home opener. Wouldn't it be great if we set the mark for attendance this year in our first game? The Galaxy number will be hard to beat, but it can be done.

Can we? I've heard that they're capping attendance under 27K for all games except the WCQ.

We were told that they wouldn't deny anyone from attending the opener. They will make as many seats available as they need. I think that this only applies to the opener though.

The Crapids couldn't even muster 10k! This is another aspect we need to beat them on. We need to beat them on the field, yes, but we also need to show them up by consistently having more fans at the games.

As if that will be a problem. They couldn't even must up 10k fans for their hope opener. It will take them three home games just to match our very first game.

Less than 10,000 fans and no win. Ouch!

What is their excuse? I mean, seriously? 9K on opening day? They better have had some serious snow or something. Attendance figures have been terrible so far this season...

I've never wanted to defend the CRapids, but their was extreme cold temperatures, and the weather folks were predicting a major blizzard. It was obviously a bad storm, because this evenings Stingers game was canceled because their opponent, Las Vegas, could not get out of Colorado where they were playing last weekend. The airport was snowed in.
