Minute 79:
Lyon 1 : 1 PSV Goal by Cocu. Somewhat against the run of play, the veteran midfield player equalises with an superbly worked goal. The 34-year-old makes a run through the middle of the field before working a quick one-two with Park, Cocu fires a low drive across Coupet and just inside the right-hand post. Juve look content with the scoreline as it stands, happy to take their away-goal with them back to Turin.

The home side's frustration is plain to see as PSV consolidate their position. Attacking substitute Beasley has dropped into a five-man defence.

Final:
Liverpool 2 : 1 Juve Lyon 1 : 1 PSV Juve and PSV get valuable away goals. The first leg ends 1-1 and the celebrations of the PSV players are revealing. Although they edged possession, the Dutch side were outplayed for much of the encounter but will nevertheless have the advantage when the tie returns to the Philips Stadium next week. Cocu's excellent 79th-minute strike - only PSV's second shot on target - proved enough to give the side a share of the spoils as Lyon were left to rue Govou's miss just after the hour when he really should have scored. The full-time whistle goes with Liverpool the winners, though Cannavaro's second-half header will give the Italian side confidence for the return leg next week. On an emotional night at Anfield, the home side started strongly and first-half goals from Hyypiä and Luis García put them in command at the interval. Juve improved after the restart and got a goal back, but Liverpool held on to set up an intriguing second leg at the Stadio delle Alpi. Last edited by AreliusII : 04-05-2005 at 02:45 PM.

That was really really cool when the Liverpool supporters created the word "AMICIZIA" before the game during the moment of silence. (Amicizia means "friendship" in case you were wondering) I'll see if I can find a picture of it.

A minute's silence in honour of the 39 dead and for Pope John Paul II -- was also observed before Liverpool's Kop end held up cards spelling "Amicizia" or friendship before delivering a heart-rendering version of their Never Walk Alone anthem.

After Heysel, English clubs were banned for five seasons from competing in the European Cup. Ian Rush, Liverpool’s centre forward at the Heysel match, who went on to play for Juventus afterwards, has also written a personal message in the brochure calling for togetherness and is pictured in it wearing a split Liverpool and Juventus kit. Liverpool chief executive Rick Parry told the British radio station BBC Five Live the match would help create friendship between the two clubs and their fans. "It will be poignant," he said. "I hope we can give a very warm welcome to the Juventus supporters." Every Juventus supporter at Tuesday’s match will be given a red, black and white armband with the word "friendship" written in English and Italian. Liverpool fans are to build a mosaic, spelling out "Amicizia" – 'friendship' in Italian – made up of the Liverpool bird and the two teams’ colours. Phil Neal, who captained Liverpool at Heysel, will lead Liverpool fans in carrying a banner to the Juventus stands, bearing the message: "In memoria e amicizia" – "In memory and friendship". http://www.expatica.com/source/site_article.asp?subchannel_id=48&story_id=18746&name=Liverpool+to+play+Juventus+20+years+after+Heysel+tragedy You'll never walk alone http://www.dougie.uk.com/walkalone.html Last edited by AreliusII : 04-05-2005 at 04:00 PM.

In case you are wondering what that article is about and the history between the two teams.
http://www.contrast.org/hillsborough/history/heysel.shtm ![]() I think it was appropriate for the teams to memorialize that occasion.

Anyway, it was a good game for both teams, what an amazing goal by Luis Garcia!! But I think Juve is in great shape heading back to Delle Alpi. They got the away goal, and I think they are still the favorite to go through.

I was rooting for Juve over Liverpool.
Still watching the Chelsea/Munich and Milan/Inter games. All I want is to see Beasley on ESPN2 next leg, is that too much to ask for? Isn't that what most American viewers want to see?
