Did anyone else watch any of the other games Saturday? I tried to watch at least a little bit of each one that I could -- the only one I didn't see was KC and the Crapids.
The San Jose Extreme Makeover didn't turn out to be nearly as bad as I thought it would... although the Revs were able to turn it around in the second half despite having like half their team exhausted from WCQ duty. And the Seedy Cheetos played a little slow at times, but weren't as bad as I thought either. What little I saw of the Galaxy was pretty dire. The commentator on FSC (Christian Miles?) was going off about how they only had 1 forward and I was thinking, "and you're surprised they're playing 75 midfielders why again?" but whatever. I'm sure they'll be a different side at home this weekend. Chicago kind of surprised me, getting behind the way they did but fighting back to get a goal in the second half. Eddie Johnson's goal for Dallas was sweeeeet though! Oh, yeah, and what happened to MLS Wrap? I miss the cheesy production values and John Harkes...

I watched the first half of Chivas - DC, and to tell the truth, I didn't think they looked all that bad in the attack (Chivas, that is). They looked like they had some good team chemistry going. They had a defensive breakdown à la USA-Mexico which led to DC's first goal.

I totally missed the first half but the second half was a little boring... until DC's second goal.
I read in the newspaper that two Chivas fans got married at halftime -- did they show it on TV?

I watched the SJ/Revs and DC/Chivas matches (although I really wanted to see the LA/Crew and Dallas/Fire matches oh well).
I agree, I was actually rooting for Chivas (I hate DC) and I thought they were fairly good. I didn't think they were embarrassed or anything. When Gomez went out and Mendoza came on they let DC take advantage of them. But otherwise if Mendoza, Thiba and Taylor could finish, it would have been at least a 2-1 game. As for the Quakes/Revs, a tale of 2 halves for sure. Revs scare me though, they aren't very deep except in Midfield. Quakes seem to have weathered the post-Donovan era better than expected. Might help if they got some International players (Canada doesn't count). Barret, Mullan and O'Rourke are awesome. Can we have them?

I watched the CD Chivas/DC game, not bad. CD is better than I thought they wuold be, they just need to learn how to finish their goal shots.
The Fire/FC Dallas game is worth watching. and excellent game. both side really seemed to fight for the 3 points. FC Dallas will be a nightmare for us. I watched the RSL game too. maybe next game someone should not invite the wind. He was a bastard all game and wouldn't let up

I am going to enjoy disliking the goats.

I saw all the games except the untelevised KC victory over the team from the wrong side of the Rockies.
DCU/sc--I thought DC had their way with them. No team in MLS is truly awful, so I'm not surprised that sc put up a fight. But it's very difficult to adapt their adopted style of play to the faster and more physical MLS game. They will win some, but lose many more. Oh, and what happened to all the fans? They're supposed to sellout stadiums all over the country, and they can't even sell out their inaugural home opener? Crew/LA--Sampsonitis at its most telling. The man can read talent but can't put it together properly. LA will win enough to be competitive for the playoffs, but mostly because they have so much talent. Against Columbus, they ran into a team on a mission after last year's early playoff exit. And Razov looks like he's ready to play again. Watch out for the Crew. RSL/Metro--Not much too add, except that I'll take a point on the road any day. SJ/Revs--San Jose looked very good early, but the Revs hung in and fought hard for the draw. I like both these teams, despite preseason predictions. They both have solid keepers, good defenders, and quality strikers. Oh, and the game was entertaining, too. FCD/Fire--Is it just me, or could Zach Thornton use some time on the treadmill? I thought Dallas was all class in this game. When they figure out how to work EJ with the fish, they will be very difficult to beat. What was with Garlick over Cassar in goal? Interesting. Maybe the only true keeper controversy in MLS in the early season. Overall--not the best opening day for conditions, attendance, or level of play, but I don't care. RSL has played it's first game, and for that reason alone it was a memorable First Kick.
