Mexico - Argentina (R)

The US didn't play at Victoria Street because Mexico was hosting Argentina in the LA Coliseum.

Mexico (with pretty much all their starters except Rafa Marquez) 1

Argentina's B team 1

att: 60,000

60,000? Are you talking about HDC? I thought its capacity was only 27,000

I think they were at the LA Coliseum, which is where Mexico matches in LA are usually played.

Are we saying we didn't want to look bad, with Mexico-Argentina sure to outdraw USA-Colombia? That would not be news!

We should use the HDC as much as possible, but it's the USSF's call and Titan Stadium did the job.

And it has the ivy.

Here's an interesting little statistic about these 2 games. Rover, can you help me with the stats?:

-The USSF used to take a cut of all friendlies played in the US. I seem to remember 15%, but that might be too high.

But a few years ago, the LA Coliseum Commission was threatening to sue the USSF on antitrust grounds. So I don't know if the USSF still takes a cut or not.

The Coliseum needed the money to upgrade security for when the USMNT plays there.

Bwah ha ha ha ha ha ha!

-So if Mexico - Argentina sold 60,000 @ $25 a pop and the USSF took 15%, that's $225,000.

-If tickets for US - Colombia were $15, and we sold 7500 of them; that's $112,500. And we have to give a cut of that to Colombia, and pay Cal State Fullerton to rent the stadium.

I'll have to research it, but I'm fairly sure that the USSF, as the FIFA-sanctioned soccer governing body in the U.S., still gets their cut. I don't know the exact percentages, but your numbers sound right. And I'd forgotten about the Coliseum-USSF battle.

I'm perfectly happy not to go to the Coliseum. Besides the place being a dump, nothing good happens when I go the Coliseum. I've seen everyhting--knife attacks, our car busted into, my car towed, ridiculous traffic. My only good memory of it was the 1984 Olympics, when I took the bus from Anaheim to see Track and Field. Now? No thanks.
