Real Salt Lake fan club denies responsibility for Bramble stunt

Salt Lake City, UT March 9, 2005 — Real Salt Lake’s supporter’s group, the Loyalists, denies any knowledge or involvement in a recent prank involving a Utah state senator. Senator Curt Bramble states that angry soccer fans vandalized his property recently, following his support of legislation that would block the use of redevelopment agency funds to purchase property for a soccer stadium.

“The Loyalists do not support hooliganism in any way,” said Glenn Webb, president of the Loyalists. “The Loyalists are dedicated to making soccer a positive thing for the Utah community. Soccer fans are our friends and neighbors. We wish our participation to be inclusive, not divisive. There are examples of large, enthusiastic supporter groups in all sports, and at all levels across the United States. We wish for The Loyalists and Real Salt Lake to represent all that is good about Utah.”

The Loyalists were founded last summer, following the announcement of Salt Lake’s newest Major League Soccer team, Real Salt Lake (RSL). The goal of the Loyalists, according to their mission statement, is to “make soccer games a more enjoyable experience for everyone.” The Loyalists will accomplish this by creating an atmosphere of excitement and enthusiasm during soccer games.

The Loyalists and RSL have worked together since the announcement of expansion into Utah. Steve Pastorino, general manager of RSL, stated shortly after being hired, “The game belongs to the fans. We are just caretakers. Here’s to the Loyalists!”

Real Salt Lake has designated the northeast corner of Rice-Eccles stadium as a standing-only, general admission section for the Loyalists. The Loyalists will galvanize the crowd with vocal cheers, chants and drumming. They invite others who would like to join them in their cheering to buy tickets in the Loyalists section.

Members of the Loyalists receive a discount on season tickets in the Loyalists section and an exclusive Loyalists t-shirts. Loyalists have also received exclusive invitations to events that were otherwise open only to the media. Loyalists meetings have been attended by RSL staff, and Loyalists have had several opportunities to meet members of the new team.

Those who are interested can find more information about joining the Loyalists at http://www.theloyalists.com.

Yes, great job. Works the issue back to our talking points. You must write political speeches in your spare time.

No, but I would enjoy doing that. I'd probably being frighteningly good at it.

Glenn and I put together a list (and I got some help from BillFish from C10). I'll email it to you.

We also emailed it to some of the RSL FO, asking if they had any further suggestions on who it should go to. Will you be responsible for getting it sent to the Loyalists email list? Thanks!
